I like playing for points as much as the next guy, but I also really enjoy games where you can ignore points and focus more on the "adventure" and progressing forward in the code. My only two pins right now are Star Wars Pro and LotR -- obviously those are two great examples of such games. What are some others that are along those lines?

Williams Indiana Jones always feels like an adventure when I play it.

TOTAN is my favorite game precisely because it guides you through a story with a beginning, middle and end, has six interesting characters (not counting monsters) and is engaging every time.

Roadshow.

I would say Wh20 fits the category

Pretty much any 90’s mode base game will give you that “progression” type feeling...not as deep as LOTR, but satisfying none the less. I’ve never once paid attention to points on the games I like - they generally come naturally with progression and doing well at goals.

If you want something like LOTR, TSPP & Hobbit are mega deep adventures as well, programmed by the same guy.

Any Gottlieb system 80 game. Buy one that probably just needs a fuse. And you'll have an adventure that lasts a lifetime.

I thought this was going to be request for a BM Bandersnatch pin

I definitely prefer adventure based journey games over just high score multipliers type games. I don't care about the score, but always care how close I was to the next wizard mode.

Hobbit and JJP Pirates are pretty much the ultimate in that regard if you can handle them.

#14 5 years ago

Hobbit. One of the first callouts is "We're going on an adventure!". With 31 modes you can choose whatever path you wish.

JJP Pirates of the Carribean. 6 multiballs, 5 wizard modes and a final wizard mode.

125 different chapters across 5 movies.

But no clips or voices from the movies, so it doesn’t really feel so much like an adventure compared to other games that get to use all the assets.

I had similar reservations but you gotta play it.

I’ve not played POTC but Hobbit is about 1,000 times the game LOTR is, especially in terms of the “adventure” aspect. IMO one of the greatest ever

I have. It’s confusing & lacks personality. I could learn the rules eventually, but that won’t give the game personality.
