I'm with Tsj on this one..... I'd bet the bank it's the batts.... If it's still attached to the board cut the holder off and relocate the batts..

Longspur-- Easiest and most productive check you can do is relocate the batteries. That's the FIRST thing I do on all my machines. If the board mounted holder shows signs of leakage REMOVE it, If not let it there.
