I have a Doozie (1968) table that I'm restoring and am wondering if I should add a protective cover or something on the ball return kicker to help preserve the ball. Thoughts?

This will probably just mess up the operation very quickly, even if not at first. File the kicker so it is smooth and you should be fine. Certain kickers even do a good job at moreso pushing the ball than striking it, but not all. Just change your balls often.

If it works fine, it can't hurt, but I wouldn't sell it or put it on location like that until it'd worked fine for years.

I've sometimes considered mylaring the whole outhole/trough passage :/

Everything works fine for years until you operate it.

It is supposed to have protection: part number 3A-7176-1 “Striker Ring”. Marco used to sell it, but they’re out of stock. You can probably get away with using a couple of old rubber rings.

I don't think that's the part they were planning on putting rubber on

That piece prevents the link from hitting the metal on the way back, not the ball. I wonder why they even put that there, I've never seen any of them on my games and suppose they easily were destroyed early on.

Noise suppressant, perhaps.

Yah, I was thinking about covering part A-6883. It's probably not necessary. Maybe I'll use some adhesive foam tape and see how that works. It'd be easy to remove if it messes things up.

Here's a quick update on the restoration, it's amateur hour but it'll look a lot better than before.
