Ok, looking to add a knocker to a t3 stern whitestar.
I read the post out there about how to add it to the backbox. They all mention you can easily install using the European token dispenser coil. The hookup is near the coin door.

I would like to use this. But none of them mention what it looks like.

Anyone know? Got a picture.

Chris, that looks sweet!

Will something similar work on SAM machines?
If so, does anyone have details?

Edit-
Nevermind: just saw the thread about SAMs.

Resurrecting an 8-year old thread, here goes

I'm trying to install a knocker on my LOTR using the pinwiki solution, but both J10-5 and J8-9 are currently being used. Is there another way to get this done?

Read that section again Hammerhead
Those positions are wired but not used.

Either stuff another wire on top of the existing wire, make a “Y” connection, or find where they lead in the cabinet and pick up the connections there. When I wired that one, I wanted the knocker to be in the head. Hence adding the two wires.

Still struggling through this on LOTR. A few things I've observed:

- J8-P9 on LOTR is for the loop diverter, every time the diverter was activated my knocker went off
- there is no "European coin dispenser" in that I can see
- "Optional Coil #24" is an possibility, but it only has 5V DC

What am I missing?

That 5V mention is extraneous in this case. There is still a FET there to provide ground to whatever power is connected to that circuit. Connect your knocker path to ground to that pin.

You can test the theory with a logic probe on that pin, as long as nothing is connected to it. the logic probe should show nothing normally, but when the knocker would be called upon to fire, the logic probe would go low.

Aaargh!

How do I test the knocker to see if it works? Neither activating Q24 in the coil menu does nothing or firing the knocker in the Diagnostics menu does anything.

Quoted from Hammerhead:

Aaargh!
How do I test the knocker to see if it works? Neither activating Q24 in the coil menu does nothing or firing the knocker in the Diagnostics menu does anything.

1. Test for power on both lugs of the coil.
2. Ground the non-banded diode side of the coil. If it has power, it should fire.

Assuming it fired, buzz the connection from the non banded side of the coil back to the drive header pin...with power off.
After that it's a matter of the drive circuit working correctly and being enabled in the software.

Which game?
