Replacing the transistor is pretty low on my list. I would look at the mechanical aspects of the kickout before anything else. Coil sleeve? Did a previous owner decide that WD40 was a lubricant? Is the bottom of it mushroomed, and not moving smoothly? If it looks like the transistor is burned, sure, replace it. Check the supply voltage. Make sure that it isn't a cap issue. If you want a new driver board consider giving me your old one because more than likely that isn't the problem.
