Subbing to watch the show and help out where I can.

In all honesty and experience, find a doner. Parts are really that hard to find. I just spent 2 years doing what you’re doing with a Transporter the Rescue. I got hung up on nut lugs and posts, ramps that were not supposed to be made, a never made again ship part... If it wasn’t for luck and some really great pin heads and friends it’s taken a decade to develop; it would still be in pieces all over my house and work office.

Taf is 3x the Machine mechanically that TTR is, I have no doubt it can be done, but I think your In for a longer project than you realize without the experience in parts and people than you may realize.

Still though, you’ve got gutz and experience !

Quoted from loneacer:

Don't trust the manual 100%. It's pretty close, but there are mistakes in there. I ran into them during my restoration, but I don't remember off hand what all they were.

I second this, proceed with extreme caution. I don’t know of any pinball manual that is 100% on lamps, rubber kits, post lengths. Sometimes the locations of things changed entirely.

You need some reference photo sets with high detail (I say sets because you will need multiple angles of the same areas), and you need a knowledge base of what the lamp sockets are and the screw lengths that attach them, don’t put a screw into the bottom of the playfield unless you are certain it is the correct length

Good job on the tmnt episode, the intro was enough to be proud of.

A thought on the wiring harness... if you cannot find one. You could get 2 wpc harnesses from different games and theoretically wire up the Playfield with proper color wires by splicing wires together where needed.

You will definitely want to use the proper wire colors and stripes, doing a harness without the proper coding will be very troublesome later on.

Quoted from Tommy-dog:

I still think your crazy. You need to at least start with an used wired Addams playfield or someone out there who parted one out years ago and you can just purchase the box of playfield parts.

Agreed, plus 2 used wiring harnesses, most definitely

Quoted from Passave:

Used wire is a bad idea, Those IDCs not only displaced (cut) the insulation but also compromised strands of the wire making it quite unreliable even as new.

I wouldn’t think so, as long as every connection is ohmd out and badly dried out wire is cut out, he should be fine. That’s why I say to use 2 harnesses; plenty of extra correct original colors to splice in where needed.... but new wire would be preferable, But difficult to locate. Maybe not possible to locate.

Regardless, I would not start at all if a wiring harness were not located first. It would have been the first part I would have purchased; even if I only had it to copy with new wire

Quoted from ryan1234:

Hell- you could probably make it all out of the same color wire, just mark your connectors carefully. This is a very doable project.
It will not make you rich.... but will keep you busy.

What a nightmare this would be later on when problems arise and things need to be traced down. I don't recommend this.

Things just got weird

Quoted from newtoit:

Build the underside of the playfield first.
Youre on the fence about which dmd you want when you should be worried about the mechs and a harness.
And to ryan1234 this isnt about armchair quarterbacking, I kept my mouth shut until he said he got an increased credit line to fund the playfield. Im not saying he doesnt have the ability to build it, I am suggesting he not go into further debt over it.

I agree, if he decides he wants to stop the project, it will be difficult to not take a loss on all the parts to sell them off. Not to mention that its difficult for almost anyone that finances entertainment to pay it off before the NEXT project comes about.

Quoted from russdx:

But he has all the time in the world between waiting for new parts he can afford to do a few steps multiple times this is not some 2 month super efficient restore by a pro, its learning how to build a pinball from scratch without any experience in pinball. I find it fascinating and love watching the progress / mistakes. Loads of people here to help and guide

I gotta say, I’m super impressed with you guys; rallying around shredder565 as a newbie with a crazy passion project and introduction to pinball, No one here has criticized, (even though rightly so we have tried to push him to purchase a doner game or playfield). It makes me proud to be a part of this community.

Get those holes on the bottom cab perfect, I messed up a brand new cabinet and had to improvise once, it was messy. But in the end I save it, but yikes, I should have reached out for help

I’ll have this for MM soon. I also did a set for HS2.

Please share those when you have a chance.
My buddy is building mm from scratch, right now collecting parts
