Best of luck, very interested in seeing how this turns out. If you haven't worked on a pin before then this is one hell of a first project. I agree with everyone else, you're best off finding a beater TAF and using that as a donor machine, it will make life much much easier and probably cut the project time in half. Right now I'd expect this to take you a year to complete.

Quoted from Shredder565:

As for the wiring harness... after looking at all the pictures I could find, I was thinking along the same lines as >>>
I dunno maybe I’m crazy but the wiring harness doesn’t seem like that crazy of a thing to make. Once the bottom is fully populated and its on a rotisserie. You don’t have to fully replicate every wire color if you make your own chart while you build either. Use wire tags with the original color codes at both ends. Set a goal to do # wires a night and stick to it. Eventually it will be flowing.>>>

I agree that a wiring harness isn't crazy to build, it's just going to be incredibly tedious. Think wiring a jamma loom x100. You'll get it done, it will just be the longest part of the build.

Quoted from Shredder565:

just checked out to see how many of the playfields where left out of curiosity. not only are the golds gone, but the other two are all gone as well.

Are you only referring to CPR playfields? Mirco appears to have plenty of his TAF playfields in stock. I'd personally have opted for the glitter variant of Mirco's playfields. I've seen one of those in person and it looks super cool.

Quoted from lordloss:

As someone who has quoted wire harnesses, you won't get anyone to build it in a professional setting.

Yeah I find it extremely unlikely as well.

Quoted from Shredder565:

If someone wants to provide one, I will more than gladly send it over and pay for the cost of the prototype.

You could possibly template it yourself using the schematics and matrixes in the manual, though it would be incredibly time consuming without a reference game. I think the best route to go would be to provide them the wire gauge, length, and color list from a few pages back so you can potentially get all the correct wire to build the harness with.

I feel it would make more sense to populate the bottom of the PF and get everything wired before populating the top side. You'll likely have to remove ramps, wireforms, etc while building out the bottom to get everything properly wired, switches adjusted, etc.

Personally I'd go for the LCD version rather than the LED. You can always set the LCD to do dots instead of smooth if you prefer the dots look. It's all personal preference though.

Does that actually work in real pins? I'm pretty sure it's specifically for virtual pins. I don't think it would without pairing it with something like pin2dmd. At that point you'd just be buying it to pull the panels from it and use on a pin2dmd.

Also have to remember to put the batteries in the pcb on top tomorrow as well.

You should consider going for an NVRam instead, I convert all my games. $20 to never have to worry about acid damage.

Probe to make sure the ColorDMD is actually getting power. You also mentioned trying to remove the orange piece, that's part of the plug and isn't meant to be removed. Make sure you didn't push the pins out to the point where they're not making contact when you were trying to remove it.

Quoted from ThatOneDude:

Dude, relish the moment. Look at everyone who said it was crazy(yeah, it was, but it's a GOOD crazy). But you made it work. You aren't done yet, but you are SO close!

I'm definitely interested in seeing how long wiring the PF takes. If I recall correctly someone offered up a wiring harness, which should make it significantly easier.

The one I use almost never replies to emails, but if I call they are incredibly helpful, so I'd recommend calling. Now I just show up with the parts and get pricing on the spot haha.
