Quoted from Shredder565:

Is it possible to get a decent donor machine for $5,000 or under?

YES: I sold a decent working TAF about 3 years ago when I was moving for $3200.

I still think your better off not building a TAF unless you can get an almost complete wired playfield from someone. TAF is just too complex of a playfield to custom make parts for. There was a lot of TAF made (over 20K) so it is not a hard to find game. Even operators in the late 1990's parted them out. Wired playfields are out there and it would be your best option to find one.

Quoted from Pinless:

Not to be a Debby Downer, but those are few and very far between. Just know that almost everyone on this forum is hunting for that same deal and will almost certainly (99% chance) beat you to it.

The deals are out there. There is a TZ that I can pickup for $3K locally by me but I really don't have any interest in it. I also found two Gottlieb SYS3 mid 1990's DMD games at a church that I can pick up for $400.

Quoted from Shredder565:

If I where to buy a Rotisserie, how much are they and what is a good place to go too?

Just borrow one from a local Pinsider near you. It would help if you have your location on your user name too. My rotisserie was out on loan for about 2 years to a local Pinsider and just came back. I now need to do 2 playfield swaps before it is available to be loaned out again. I am sure you have someone local to you that can loan theirs out.

I still think your crazy. You need to at least start with an used wired Addams playfield or someone out there who parted one out years ago and you can just purchase the box of playfield parts.

Quoted from CLEllison:

Both have their own set of issues. ... to get properly drilled and nutted.

This is true of most if not all reproduction playfields. The dimples are never 100% correct and usually a lot of holes are missing. If you use the reproduction playfield as is with the incorrect/shifted dimple holes, the game will not play correctly.

Quoted from Shredder565:

Ordered the cabinet . . plan to order the playfield next week ..bear ramp. thing, Things box, the transformer, the color dmd and the dmd 'thing cover'.

You should start with the hard parts first, like the wireforms, Thing hand lower assy with motor, bookcase lower assy with motor, and wire harness. Once you find how difficult those are you might want to just buy a complete game.

Quoted from Davi:

Do you need a Thing light board PCB (the classic twist lock wedge version)?

You will not need that with the LCD color display.

I wish you the best of luck with this project but you are going to hit a point where your not going to find the part(s) that you need to continue.
