I think now that the speaker is installed, the line filter is in, the interconnect board is in, now we are at the stage where I can start hooking up some lower cabinet wires.

Quoted from Shredder565:how does that look?
Your power box needs to be over to the right more so the switch goes overtop of the cut out hole but you are also missing a switch spacer there as well. I would think Paul might have supplied for you but maybe not.
Here is a picture i took from one of Hep's machines that he is restoring. See that piece of wood under power box that is what you need. Basically it a piece of wood that is roughly 2x3 inches but can be made to your liking and will have a hole in it to accommodate the switch coming out from bottom of power box. The purpose of this is to keep the bottom of switch raised flush or higher than the bottom of the cab so you don't break the switch when transporting.

I probably should secure that plug to the side, but I don't want to use staples.

speaker secured
[quoted image][quoted image]
As long as the power switch doesn't bind on the wood and the speaker lugs go ti the left, you are good to go!
Quoted from Shredder565:hope it wasn't in the box and I missed it. I'll have to look to see if it's still out there. sometimes stuff gets lost in styrofoam pellets .
better?[quoted image]
Yeah, your cabinet came with the little square block that goes under the power box.
It just gets glued on with titebond
If you lost it, just make another one out of scrap.
Its the same material as the speaker mount. But anything will do.
Just a block of wood with a big hole in it.
Quoted from Shredder565:I probably should secure that plug to the side, but I don't want to use staples.
Consider using cable clamps that aren't completely secured (in a complete circle).
It is easier to insert and remove the cable.
so, apart from a little cable tidying up, what is missing now to turn it on? it seems like we have everything on the previous list .

it looks pretty good.
Quoted from pinballinreno:it looks pretty good.
So, it should be a simple matter of hooking up the lower cables, and hoping for good?

You need to watch the Rocket Mortgage commercial. "Pretty sure" or "Certain"?

that was the post I was going to try and refind this morning to make sure I didn't forget anything . thanks
well, the check list didn't get done with me around. but maybe it will get done next week while i'm away, and then on tuesday the 29th, we can power it up for the first time and hope for the best .
back in the world of the living. arcade 1up finally modified the way I want it.
New On/Off switch and volume control that turn EVERYTHING in the pi and machine off properly. and with one plug.
new light up marquee.
new spinner for arkanoid.
If I had a second control panel, I'd place things a little differently. and resize the volume hole a little so it looks a little nicer. but for now, it works the way I need it too.. lot of trial and error.
Tuesday.....will try and focus on that check list. hope for first time power up now that I can fully focus on the pinball.

question. where does that braid go under the center speaker, or under the center speaker grate?[quoted image]
Under the metal edge of the speaker itself to give it a ground.
Quoted from pinballinreno:Under the metal edge of the speaker itself to give it a ground.
can I simply put the screw through it? just wanna make sure I do this all right Also have to remember to put the batteries in the pcb on top tomorrow as well.
Quoted from Shredder565:Also have to remember to put the batteries in the pcb on top tomorrow as well.
You should consider going for an NVRam instead, I convert all my games. $20 to never have to worry about acid damage.

my de soldering skills are iffy at best, but getting better. first challenge is to get it powered up. then we'll see about any improvements down the line.

Yes.
Quoted from transprtr4u:June tomorrow .... getting close to firing it up !
i'm hoping the checklist gets done tommorow....

Dont worry about nvram etc right now.
Fresh batteries last a couple years if checked once in awhile.
You have more pressing concerns.
we have plugged it in to the wall for time one. transformer humming.. no fires. check list in progress
Well now....the check list checked out. We flipped it on....nothing on the dmd... no sound. :/. Either I hooked something up wrong or we are missing something. boards show lights and sign of life..no smoke
Quoted from Shredder565:Either I hooked something up wrong
Pull out the manual and in the rear go over the connector pinouts for the boards in the head. Connector info and wire colors there.
LTG : )

Double check all the ribbon cables. Make sure the red line is on pin #1 labeled on the board on both ends. It's very easy to miss a row on these ribbon cables too, I've done it many times. Post some close up pics, I bet someone will see something.
as promised, video of first power on.....
humming transformer, no fires. no picture, but I still call that a small win
some things are not hooked up, like flipper cables.
I feel like I am still missing DMD cables or something.

Ribbon cable from the CPU to the display is missing.
Ribbon cable from DMDlux is not present, it should go from the CPU to the DMDLUX and then to the DMD display.
Check your work.
You are getting power to the display that is evident.
But no data from the game to the display via the ribbon cables.
No ribbon cable from the CPU to the Sound card, so, no sound either.

See, I knew it felt like something was missing. but at least everything else SO FAR seems to check out.
I don't think I have any left over cables I missed. maybe I have to order some.

If you bought a TAF ribbon cable set you will have the long multi-connection one as seen in the picture.
Install the short ribbon cable and power cable between the driver board and the cpu board first to see if the cpu led blinks.
This is critical, the blinking CPU light means the game is alive.
Turn it off then then plug in the others.
Quoted from Shredder565:something like this?
I didn't get that before.

or this:
I am shopping my TAF I just purchased and bought a set from Marco. $36.99
https://www.marcospecialties.com/control/keywordsearch?SEARCH_STRING=rc1005 ($10.00 cheaper)

That looks like the exact same link I just posted? Lol
But yes, Marco's cables are high quality and cheaper than K's arcade.
Thanks!

Yea, LOL. We both posted at the same time.

almost!
love that .... no fire!
I am most pleased with this small accomplishment. and the boards all seemed to have survived various trips around the work bench .
ordered a set of ribbon cables. we'll see what happens with step two .
When installing the ribbon cables, the red stripe edge goes to pin #1 on each connection.
They are labeled on the boards.
OK, except for two details with the speaker cable wires, I THINK that should be everything properly done.
does that look OK?
minus the speaker panel stuff? I want to thank everyone for their patience in helping me figure this out one baby step at a time

Check everything 20 times and fire it up.
Don't forget the video!
Barring any small failures the most important thing is the flashing CPU board led.
Yes the heartbeat...
before I flip the switch. two procrastination questions
ground for the dmd. does that look ok?
I THINK this dmd cable goes into that connection, but I can't for the life of me get the orange adapter off. is it ok if I leave it unplugged?
