Quoted from Shredder565:

I'm rather proud of getting that on the first try.
how does that look? deep enough?[quoted image]

A friend of mine showed me a drumstick is the proper height. Probably not exact, but it's worked for me every time. I have a couple scraps of cut up drumstick in my tool bag and use them as a guide.

Use a small piece of 1/2" mdf below it, tap it down til snug, remove mdf. Also protects u from hitting pf with hammer.

The center line of a ball should be even with the center line of the ball guide

Go to 4:45 in this video and you'll see how Data East did it at the factory. Pretty easy method.

I was going to celebrate the last part being bought as the three balls needed .

Read vids guide on re-populating playfield.

Just make the wire ball guides.

Cheap and easy.

My Break has arrived . Now, do I try an easy one....or not .

hmm, that would be the easiest way to judge I guess. but man, that floating head is distressingly creepy ;o)

#909 7 months ago

slight new problem. my grandfathers old reliable 50 year vice is a tad too small to reliably attach. the break wobbles to much. need a new vice it'll fit.

may have to add t his to the list.

Also, light boards ordered.
$50 total.

cool thanks for that, I don't do facebook. One day when it's super uncool to join, I will.

last time I tried that trick, i blew out the bottom of a playfield by going too deep.

#915 6 months ago
Quoted from slicknick13:

last time I tried that trick, i blew out the bottom of a playfield by going too deep.

The holes are supposed to be drilled all the way through the playfield.

Top quarter of the hole slightly larger than the wire, the bottom half of the hole slightly smaller than the wire.

Use the drill box holes/guides to size the bits. Or lay the bits down next to the wire and check with a straight edge.

Hammer in using 1/2" MDF as a spacer. This gives you close to the exact height of 17/32" to the center

Glued in with titebond III.

Removal is easy with a small drift from the bottom.

light boards should be here by Monday. Ordering the new Vice as well. hopefully I can get a test one bent next week.

That feeling you get when you spend 60 tries and almost 60 hours trying to beat trial of the sword 3.... frig yeah!
only I didn't say frig!

anyone have any documentation on how to wire my new light boards properly? that could be a project for this week. shouldn't be harder than the 100 solders I had to do for R2.

Wire them? Are you talking about just soldering the header pins to the boards? Should be straight fwd, the boards should have empty holes and that should tell you how many pins you should be soldering to each..

#926 6 months ago

having never seene one of these in person, not sure what's involved just yet. but it would be nice to have an idea ;o)

Someoen asked about this a while back. I lost my original so had to re compile it. This SHOULD be everything. If it is, Total cost is currently around $5,950, barring AUS conversion rate on some prices. everything ordered to date, and from where.

Thanks for the list!

Outside of all the hours put in on this project....under $6k for brand new one is good deal.

Do you have much left to purchase?

I've been wondering about that myself.

I think all the major stuff is close to done.

The Pop bumpers are in
Bottoms are on
Targets are in.
Mostly complete book case and Thing are going in.
Subway Chute is on.
Scoops are On.
Lamp Boards should be arriving today sometime and will be on.
Reese Rails are on.
Some ramps are on.
Ball Trough is on.
95% of posts are on.
I have the plastics but can't install them yet.
I have the main ramp but can't install it yet.
I have the guide rails but can't bend/install them yet.

When the cabinet gets here, the transformer can go in
The Plunger can go in.
I have the back glass.
I will have a THING speaker board
I will eventually have the metal back board and non metal light back board.

I know I need the metal ramp.
I still need some metal ramps on the side.
I need the PCB boards in the back board.
I need some PCB boards on the bottom.

but it feels like there isn't that much left to buy in terms of MAJOR/big parts.

thanks jeff

You are going to have over 10 into it would be my guess...DMD, pinsound, and boards alone, and then there is the wire and what tooling choose for seating IDCs...The 10.00 stick works, but is really slow and less than a deliberate action of the gun...*Fun story, they make a cheap plastic die, and the commercial steel versions the difference between the two are around 2800.00 apiece (since there are 2 dies) in theory you could have 5k just in the guns, before even buying your first connector...I have tried all 3, and the stick sucked, and was unreliable connections, the plastic die broke on a cold morning, and the steel ones are so spendy I had to eat popcorn for 3 months.

#931 6 months ago

a quick test fit of THING to see how well he was setup.

I can clearly tell it won't clear the hole at this point.

I don't know what size connector the little round part needs to fit in so it stays attached to the rod.

Your Thing hand appears to be facing the wrong direction...

you know I realized that as soon as I put it on.I wonder if it'll clear the hole any better if I flip the thing around.
But I had to replace the screws anyway that attach it to the motor so I just left it that way.

I was looking at an angle from a different direction and must have put it on the wrong way...

Hey 565
Respectfully, you really should be thanking Steve (Dankme). It took him literally weeks to do the lampboard drawings and iteration to dial them in vs minutes to order.

Absolutely Wally! I was only a facilitator, not the creator. Steve is an awesome guy!

Magnet Coils and Flipper assemblies shipped.

That just leaves the topper and 3" guide rail left in limbo.

Quoted from Shredder565:

anyone have any documentation on how to wire my new light boards properly? that could be a project for this week. shouldn't be harder than the 100 solders I had to do for R2.

Hey shredder565 ...You will have better luck asking these kinds of questions and anything related to making a scratch TAF build in the remake fb group. There are a bunch of people in there who have already completely made an Addams from parts and/or are currently making one. Not everyone who is making/made one and can answer these questions watches your thread here.

Not sure if you are asking how to wire the boards themselves or the wires going to the boards, but I attached an image of what the TAF lamp boards that I made should look like when finished. This was my first attempt at making ANY PCBs and I wasn't intending to sell them or anything so they are not 100% exact to the originals (which I didn't have). Mainly the screen printing is different and there are probably slight sizing differences as well. Anyway, in the TAF parts list on ipdb.org you can see the diodes, lamp sockets, and Molex connectors needed to finish them. If you have another game with lamp PCBs, you can use that as a reference as well to see how they are made. When you wire it up, you will need to use the lamp matrix to see what wires go where. Hope that helps.

IT def helps

I now know how many points need to be soldered, and what they are supposed to look like finished.
it'd be kidn of fun to power 'em on somehow just to make it look like it's on when done if possible ;o).

Flippers get here tomorrow. as does the rest of the order.

that just leaves the topper and guide rail.

OK, progress. I found the position of one light board, even though I know that is not how they go on. I think I am missing stands.

Thing is properly re asserted. even though still missing proper screws for some things, at least they won't fall off for now.

Next, trying to install the flippers properly.

At least the magnets where easy

Yes, you definitely need spacers for the boards.

when I was looking at images, it seems they are also flipped the other way and metal against even wood obviously not good.

any ideas on where to get the spacers?

Do you have the twist on sockets for the boards?

Any 1/2" #6 spacer will work.
Ace hardware usually has a good selection of black nylon spacers.

Marco has the clip on ones specific for this.

Someone here can measure the exact length or check the BOM list.

Marco type in plastic spacer.

it's starting to slowly look like something.

Parts list is your friend. You need to populate those PCBs with the .156 headers and diodes before you screw them down (with the spacers installed).

yep, I knew I had to populate them first. But I wanted to make sure I had the proper spots for them first while I waited for parts to be ordered

does this spacer look right?

yes... but you could find an alternative as long as the height is correct and it will fit a #6 screw. The nice thing about the original part is that it clips into the PCB and stays there so you can pre-build it or remove it from the play field without the spacers falling off. The holes in your PCBs are a bit larger than the #6 screw to accommodate for the clip on the standoff.

#950 6 months ago

Yeah the clip in spacers are nice, I’d Order and wait for those to come. U can order headers and diodes and get those coming while your at it.

The metal around each light hole faces down and makes contact with the plastic light socket holder contacts when you turn it a quarter turn to ‘screw’ it onto the pcb.
