Quoted from Shredder565:

the Ball trough I think Ican install. the wire guide I can install. how many of the ball guides can I put on now once I bend them?

You should be able to install them all. They're usually the first layer on top. My concern would be your bends. If the mounting tabs aren't bent correctly, the guide will end up mounted incorrectly. The location of some can be critical.

#852 3 years ago

Getting hung up on something so critical seems like a good point to move on, By the time you get the rest of the machine together there may be a few parted out games at your disposal, like Bryan says those are critical And the real deal would be best.

Ball guildes are normally what you put on right after what you have put on.Very few people part out a game like Addams family it is so valuable. Every a totally trashed barn find with trashed boards can run 1000 dollars. And they are so easy to restore because a large majority of the parts are widely produced. Also I know you wanted a fully new game. So I do believe with the ball guides you can maybe borrow some from someone who is doing a playfield swap or restore and use those a a template to make correct bends. Or if it was me I would just do it without anything.

#854 3 years ago

I don't know, It is just a machine after all, They get old, tore apart as some dream restoration that never happens, or worse smashed for the dumpster...My Getaway alone has parts from 8 different machines, all bought as some kind of "desirable, collectable" Junk.

yeah, i was wondering about this a few posts back on how accurate they have to be.

I saved the link wally posted a while back and will look at those later when the vice attachment finally arrives.

Bro, how much have you spent on shipping already? You have to make bigger orders!

yeah stupid . can put in the mail for probably a dollar

Wait till he figgers out Marco ain't the only place to get parts...And starts in with the "box" from every continent game.

"Only" $40?
Starts from $52 to Europe... Amazing.
On top of that, I can't pay in USD in Paypal, only in my currency. They exchange rate is very bad.

Holy cow Man that is ugly...Jenn now understands the "Make bigger orders" comment.

#864 3 years ago

shipping hasn't been too bad. ten bucks here, ten bucks there. if it means getting orders when I can, i'd rather have something to play with.

note... never try and move a heavy wood desk by yourself. I guess I applied too much oomph in the wrong place...sigh. well, at least it lasted a good 10 years.
also, don't wipe cheese doodle residue on your pants..

I recently snapped a leg off my pool table using those carpet sliders. The bolts ripped right out of the particle board leg tops. Luckily i was able to just cut a new one real quick, and the company sells replacements for $4 if i want it. But yes....GARBAGE. lol

#867 3 years ago

yep, it was carpet sliders.... ugh. trying to decide on a new dresser, but i have a hard time finding one with draws at least 9" height deep. most are 5 or less.
the new computer desk is easier to decide on but the dresser also has to be replaced. cheap ikea stuff.

So, I'm having a little trouble understanding the instructions for thing.
it doesn't mention the screw size needed to attach the hand bracket to the motor, and the thing itself doesn't have a hole to attach the top screw too... do I need to drill one?

top brass screw screws into the magnet core (02-4603) which goes in the coil, (don't forget the insulation washers).
this typically will be enough to hold the hand in place as it is a pretty tight fit. The anti-trap bracket holds the base of
the hand onto the bracket.

Quoted from Shredder565:

I would at least like to get a machine LOOKING like the machine...so as to inspire me to keep going. and get most of the expensive parts first and out of the way.Good idea!

Now I see. I thought the metal rod had to go on the top of the hand not in the hand.

So now I have a mostly complete thing done. just missing two magnet parts. number 9 and 8.
and yes, I know those are the wrong sized screws for the hand.

The posts are on all 7 or 8 posts.

The standard one under the apron?

Make sure the runway is mounted straight, and not too steep. Here's the thread I made a while back that was mostly ignored but explains in detail why this is important and how to make sure it works as it should.

nope! it went in crooked and i'm almost afraid to remove it as it's stable.

Quoted from Shredder565:

It would be work - take screw out, epoxy wood fill it, sand, poly the area, predrill new hole and screw back in.....and hope it does crack!

Quoted from Shredder565:

It may look stable right now but the constant banging and vibration of general use will quickly fail that area.

Its way easier to fix this now than later.

Bondo or epoxy wood filler to fill the area. Pre-drill a new hole the width of the inner shank of the screw, use a drill stop on the drill so you dont drill thru the surface, glue the screw in when you tighten it with titebond III.

It will hold.

Question.
Are you tracking total cost?
Are you tracking suppliers you are using?

If costs are “reasonable” others may be interested.

Thx

interested in what? attempting the same thing?

I have a master list of all the parts bought, from where, and the cost included. so far the cost is around $5,000 including cabinet.

first phase done.

our design build guy agreed that it would be a rattler. he simply drilled a new hole and put it in at a straight angle. however...before i got the chance to ask if he w as our bondo expert heh..

what am i missing to attach the electric chair and the main ramp?

The ramps go on last after the bottom is complete and all posts, lights and flatrails installed.

#891 3 years ago

so, that part will be sitting around for a while. time for storage.

what about the electric chair?

#892 3 years ago

Chair will need to come off for the lamp wiring. But you can do that later IMO.

#893 3 years ago

i know they've gotta be removed anyway, but what the heck...

I'm not seeing any washers under your nylock nuts that are against the wood? Its a little thing ... but just wanted to let you know ... there usually are washers there.

#895 3 years ago
Quoted from Shredder565:

[quoted image][quoted image]

On installing flat rails and flat guides:

As a matter of habit, a lot if us put #6 or #8 flat washers under the atrachment posts and bent feet to keep the flatrail from cutting a notch into the artwork over time.

Its not mandatory or factory, but its something restorers do.

I dont think the ball trough needs it though.

hmm, I'll add 'em to the list..

#897 3 years ago

Made a transformer secondary cable today for mine, you should give it a go. Easy to do and quite therapeutic, easier if you can copy one as a reference.

#898 3 years ago

ordered a new cloud topper from pinball spare parts with decals and a 3" Wireball guide.
only missing one of them now. 1 1/12

Total $153 US. not bad.

I've got most of the CPU boards locked up thanks to a fellow user that'll be purchased mid May. the Light boards are all but ready to order. things are starting to shape up.

#899 3 years ago

I'm rather proud of getting that on the first try.

how does that look? deep enough?
