missing piece back in, but needs super glue.

Use a small drop of epoxy.

Super glue is too brittle and will crack out.

the goal is to get this thing in playable mode in two months. how many parts are missing?
Besides the obvious of the Bear Kick and the Flip switch near 'ramp' near it.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

This is way wrong !

This small flatrail doesnt go there:

wrong (resized).jpgwrong (resized).jpg

Remove that rail and add a double metal post like this.
https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/02-4423 :

correct (resized).jpgcorrect (resized).jpg

dont worry about the extra screw hole in the playfield.

either put the screw back in the hole to cover or just remove it.

you wont see it under the ramp.

I'm not the slowest? that's a first

removed the rail.

and one of the nuts doesn't want to unbolt :/. Had to cut the plastic but now I need to find a way to get the thing totally out so I can put the rubbers on.

You houldnt have to remove anything really.

Stretch the rubber so that its thin and it should clear most obstacles.

If t-nuts are spinning, anchor them with a screw under the playfield in one of the t-nut flange notches.

#5707 22 days ago

OK, one of the bits was stripped, so got it off without damaging the T Nut. but, will have to replace the plastic piece. also, is there a THIRD post that should be here? which one am I missing?

alright. dummy me figured it out. I put the rubber on the one post. moved the rail to the proper spot. now, what one goes to the left of the double star post? does that look right?

and the double star post on the right side of the bumper.

There are myriad images of teardown photos on Pinside that you can comb through and check placement for everything. You should be able to do this stuff without all the hand holding.

Since my game is still on the bench, some hand holding, lol...

Make the whole area look like this:

Use a popsicle stick or a stiff plastic scraper to FORCE the tapered yellow bumper in.

Dont forget the tiny #2 round bead screws in the flatrail to the siderail. Drill a hole for the screws or the head will pop off (ask me how I know this...).

ALSO, dont forget the similar screw in the backboard to the long outer loop.
Without it the loop will RISE UP and down unpredictably.

bingo. when ones mind is being pulled in MANY different directions, it helps to get it right the first time. for instance, I was wrong where one of those yellow rubbers went and right where two others where..

in other news, I went through the 100 or so photos posted in the past day, trying to figure out which where mine and which where not. and I THINK this looks right now.

It's damn near impossible to get this one ON. I barely squeezed the wrong black sleeve on there. not sure how i'm going to squeeze the yellowish one. it's too thick.

Use a little windex and they slide right in.

The tapered yellow one takes a bit of pressing and pushing with a popsicle stick near the flatrail, a little windex helps a lot.

This post next to the clear pop uses a screw NOT a threaded toppped post (please see my pictures):

I'm going to have to leave that yellow bumper for monday. heading out in a bit. I'll try the windex trick.
I am also going to replace some of these metal pieces with proper bents.

Put your "Big Girl Panties" on and firmly press that yellow sucker down with a stick or flat blade screwdriver etc...

Some people use a socket from a ratchet kit, whatever works.

Yes it a tight fit. Obviously it will fit with patience and perseverance!

The electric chair is still backwards on its bracket...

Pull the whole chair assembly off, pull out the bracket, flip the chair bracket around and re-install it.

had to move this part up a bit to get the rubber on. it was too close to the flipper for it to work right.

is this metal part supposed to go through the hole?
noticed this while I'm moving the other part. I didn't think so.

Sadly after all that work, you have to remove the tapered yellow rubber.
(ARE YOU F#CKING KIDDING ME ! ! ! ! , No, Im not.)

You are MISSING the flatrail that goes behind it (PLEASE look at the picture I posted).

One step forward, 5 steps back.... at least in my world, lol.

it was there. I plan on replacing those two. and it would be easier sliding it on without it there than with it. it was tight enough where it was as it was.

FWIW, I've owned a couple TAF, shopped several, worked on several, I never remember seeing a yellow cone on that post under the ramp. I've run TAF on location for about 8 years, and I never had a problem with a ball getting stuck in that location with a regular black post sleeve on there. Put a black post sleeve on it and be done with it.

I somewhat agree on this.

Its a curiosity as to why these tapered rubbers pop up on some games.

Its possible that they keep the ball down low on the playfield to help with air-balls.

I imagine that a regular post sleeve would function just the same other than air-ball protection.

But, they do look cool.

otpo boards ordered for the lower flipper side.

so, is it agreed that a black one is ok there rather than the yellow one? I rather like the yellow. it looks different. it's just a pain in the butt to put on. I guess I could slice off a tad bit of the back so it goes on easier.

I put the yellow one. Trimming it isnt a bad idea.

It was tight, but not impossible.

I just pressed it on firmly, front to back a bit. Then pryed it with a plastic razor blade a bit, to help it down the back edge.

Always a little windex helps post sleeves slide on. I just spritz it inside the sleeve, then wipe off the outside snd slide them on.

It's still about 60/40. but better

Some progress. Phone Flasher 1 works. I have to find out which blue/red wires to attach the other one too.

Train Black/Red flasher doesn't seem to want to work.
Hooked up flipper Black/Red Flasher, that one doesn't seem to work.

But, I noticed that one has two wires heading into it...so maybe I need to hook up the ramp ones for them all to work.

I have one blue wire running out pre done for the flipper flasher...gotta run a black wire out.

The Jobs for this week. Try and get the Bear Kick Ramp into something resembling finished nature.
Long way to go.

remaining upper body parts in the background.

Other remaining jobs for this week.
Figure out which blue/red wires are for the phone flasher.

which ones are for the flipper flasher.
Hope the TRain flasher works when the ramp gets hooked up, and then figure out how these attach by looking at the photos posted.
lots of stuff to go back through.

If I can get this far by either this week, or the fourth, maybe a bit of break time.
after that, that should be all the MAJOR stuff done.

and by major, I mean, close to getting a first test game done major to see what still needs fine tuning. and I'm willing to bet there will be stuff

Finally got my switch harness repaired and installed today.

Next, repair and install the lamp harness.

#5741 17 days ago

ok, some progress. Got both of these extra flashers working, left flipper and swamp. but not the Train Flipper or the one above this one yet. hoping those start working when I hook up the ramp.

The only thing I still can't find are the extra wires for the phone flasher #2. there are no extra dangling wires to attach it to. so, I probably have to get my non color guy in here and identify the proper wire color for this one.

So it looks like you just need the bases, screws, and mounting hardware for the Infared LED Opto Assembly - Transmitter and Infared LED Opto Assembly - Receiver for the opto ball guide in and out assemblies

Here are the cheapest bases:

Black (Receiver): https://www.pinballlife.com/PBL-300-0024-00-58

White (Emitter): https://www.pinballlife.com/PBL-300-0024-00-40

I know you (ha), so here is Marco:

Black (Receiver): https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/03-8506

White (Emitter): https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/03-8506-1

One sheet metal screw connects each opto PCB to its associated base: #4 x 3/8" Phillips Pan Head Sheet Metal Screw

Examples:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-4-x-3-8-in-Phillips-Pan-Head-Zinc-Plated-Sheet-Metal-Screw-16-Pack-812661/204275188

Or

https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/4104-01001-06

And two machine screws with SEMS connects each opto base to the ball guide: #8-32 x 3/4" Phillips Pan Head Machine Screw SEMS

Example: https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/4008-01003-12

If you ever need more opto sets that are complete, you can save ~$1 per set by getting them preassembled here: https://www.pinballlife.com/williamsbally-infared-led-opto-assembly-set.html

It looks like you just need the one opto set of bases and hardware, so here's a SUMMARY of what you need:

Thanks again for the rivet press recommendation. It does seem pretty empowering to be able to use one. I'm sold on it, thank you!

And you being able to use one is a selling point, but only because you find it practical and your results look great

So added in cart.

and before I hit order, got the proper color wires for the bear kick lights. that should be the last of them. only about 4 or so switches left.
and I need to find this part before I hit order on the marco bit.

And circle it maybe?

Im a bit confused.

I went looking through the pictures, and Ican't find it. it's tough to tell yours apart from mine. it was a part that you said was on one of the guard rails that need to be on there or else the rail will flip up and down.

Quoted from Shredder565:

have to figure out how to attach and wire the opto's.

The optos, if you bought the ones I gave you the link to, have plastic mounting brackets that come with them.

Then they are attached to the flatrail with sheet metal screws, try not to strip them out.
