Hey guys! I’ve been working on my Addams family and noticed that it keeps saying factory setting restored. In the past all I’ve done is replace the batteries which I went and did again but it keeps on coming up still. Anything i should look into because this warning and reset gets annoying. Thanks for your help in advance

Is the battery holder itself compromised/corroded? I would try cleaning that up first, or remove it altogether if it's still on the board and replace it with a remote mounted one or one of the other options available - -

NVRAM for the win. Soldering is required though.

How do you recommend cleaning it?

#5 4 years ago

I also don’t have anything to solder with so I couldn’t do that method

#6 4 years ago

Batteries definitely not seating proper in holder, or hidden corrosion.

NVRAM wins ( except TZ) for me... I've had to change several battery holders over the years...Gotta heat the iron though....Good luck...

Ok I think I might just go pick up a remote battery holder and buy a soldering iron. I do now how to solder so I’ll go from there

Please post a picture of the board. If it has other battery damage that spread to the board then it would need to be sent out for repair if you're not able to handle it. In which case there would be no need to replace the battery holder at this time.

No damage buts looks like there is some acid one the very left one so I’m going to attempt cleaning it

What do you recommend using to clean it too?

#11 4 years ago

Alkaline leaked from a previous battery, I would guess.
I'm in the NVRAM camp and remove the battery holder. I would bet you have a friend who could install it for you.

How does an Nvram work? Never heard of it

#13 4 years ago

Cleaning it with vinegar works!!! I’m still going to opt for a battery holder but it’s not as urgent anymore

NVRAM works pretty similar to USB stick. Stores info when the game is on and retains the data when it is off, without the need of batteries.

I read that link but it does not say it supports the Addams family? Could you send one that does? I’m actually going to buy one

The 6264 supports all the WPC89 games, which includes TAF and Getaway.

Is there anywhere you can order these in Canada?

#18 4 years ago

Recommending NVRAM to a guy who says he hasn't got a soldering iron seems a bit OTT. Granted it will solve the problem, but so would a remote battery pack and would be orders of magnitude easier to install than NVRAM.

If the OP has someone who can install it (and has done it before I'd say) then great. If he's buying it based on a belief that it is plug and play, then it's potentially dangerous advice.

Ya nvram in wpc and system 11 games is difficult to do and should not be attempted unless you are very experienced at doing board work and soldering. It's very easy to mess up a board removing the old ram chip.

sometimes they show up on Kijiji Ottawa area, but i haven't seen them in a month or so

Completely agree. The best solution for someone who obviously has limited skills to do board work is to put in lithium batteries in the existing battery holder. They are guarrenteed to not leak. Problem solved. No board work needed.

Why except TZ?

TZ shows the current time during attract mode. With no battery backed RTC it won't be accurate.
