There is an inexpensive board that you can buy that may fix the issue but at the very least will confirm for you that it’s a 5v issue (which it almost certainly is).

Yes. It is a band-aid. What do you mean by worse? My understanding is that the game is shutting itself off to deal with the problem...so you’re not damaging or degrading anything bu installing the daughter card.
