hi, any help here would be appreciated.

just picked up an addams family in "ok" condition
but...it was working

now on start-up all sorts of opto switch issues
the bookcase and the thing

and the bookcase and the thing do not work at all
the bookcase is permanently open

tests on both give no response.

i was wondering whether this could be very simple -
just one connection problem that would sort both
items out? i can't find any obvious wiring problems
but if anyone might have a solution?

one other thing.
the knocker is not powered i.e. it is not connected
at the plastic connector - i can't see an obvious wire
for it though - where should it go to?

thanks

Open up the backbox and check ALL fuses. Take them out one at a time and verify their value (finely etched into the end cap) matches what is called for in the manual. Continuity beep-test them with a meter. All correct and good?

Refer to manual and locate and verify ALL status LEDs on Power Driver Board and WPC controller. Are any unlit?

Inspect around the three batteries on the WPC controller board for fuzzy white or green stuff.

thanks cody, i will check all this - i was thinking that something may have come loose
as it is not working after having been moved.

if it turns out that all is tight as it should be then i'll need to properly investigate.

working off memory, but also check that the settings have not been set to disable either Thing or the Bookcase. (not sure if thats available but I thought it was)

I have seen this issue on another TAF that I played on route....dirty game, DMD was shot and both the bookcase and Thing were not working.

Gotta love pins.....You move em, and they decide to not work anymore

Yes, moving changes things. Especially check the short ribbon cable between WPC and Driver.

Yeah, I think both those assemblies can be listed as Broken in tests which defeats their operation. If the game detects switch failures with them long enough it will automatically disable them.

ok - thanks all of you for your help....

i think however things may be worse than i hoped.

checked the cpu board and there appears to be some corrosion
to the underside of X2. this crystal lies right next to ASIC chip.

i can try to vinegar this - and replace the crystal??

or is this just futile and i'm gonna need a new 95 board?

thanks in advance

sorry 89 oops

I think the extent of the corrosion will determine if it's repairable within reason. Might try contacting chrishibler and send him some pics of the damage. He can tell you if its repairable or not. He did both my mpu and power boards for my TAF.
