I noticed something strange with my TAF after locking the first two balls for Multi-ball. Once the chair and vault red lights turn on my turn doesn't end if I drain the third ball. If I drain the third ball the game will eject the ball back into the shooter lane and I am able to continue shooting on that same turn. Once I start Multi-ball, it does register the drains. It seems like a glitch because I can continue shooting ramps with no fear or drains with the third ball.

I noticed that the ball eject is continuously running during this "red light" time. The game is working perfectly beside this issue. Does anyone have any idea what's causing this? I'm assuming this isn't normal.

You found the rare "Ball Save" feature that TAF does not have. All kidding aside, that is an interesting issue you have going there of which I am no help.

I am trying to think through what might possibly cause this.

The continuous ball eject cycling during "red lite" time is not right. Should not run continuously at all.

This leads me to believe there may be an issue with your ball trough switches. I would look those over real well to make sure they are not jammed or stuck.

Could you post the ROM version your game is running?
The version will be shown at boot.

You have a stuck switch in the ball trough

Check all the arms and switches

It’s prolly the one closest to the shooter Lane

Make sure it functions properly

You’ll get a switch alert soon

Seen this before

TheCnyPinGuy I think you are right. Good call. That would explain how the outhole switch can work but the game still doesn't know where all three balls are.

But why would the game serve another ball? It seems like it should go into ball search.

If 2 balls are locked

Game will serve the ball
But there is a closed switch in the furthest to the shooter lane - its stuck closed so the game “thinks” it never served the ball

I bet it’s the armature on that switch and the wire slide just enough where it is stiff and has no ‘spring’ now stuck closed

Thanks for the replies. You guys nailed it.

I inspected all the switches and none were stuck or malfunctioning. I noticed the alignment of wire (?) connected to the switch closest to the shooting lane was aligned in a way that it didn't spring back up when the wire from the ball trough fell down on it. This occurred without a ball in the trough, which makes sense why the issue was present during third ball multi-ball.

Solution: I repositioned the switch wire so it had more tension and didn't fall as easy. The shooter eject no longer fires continuously during 'red light' mode and the game is able to recognize drains during "red light" mode (fortunately or unfortunately).

New issue: I'm now seeing the continuous shooter eject firing after a ball is ejected into the shooter lane. Fires a few times and then stops. Do you think it's best to try to continue repositioning the switch wire, or replace the switch/wire?

TheCnyPinGuy Doh! I missed that when I read it the first time. Again...good call.

I would try repositioning the switch wire again. If it keeps on happening, then I would replace the switch.

The fact the ball eject was running continuously was the big giveaway. The game thought there was still a ball there that needed to be ejected but would not stop game play. Why I mentioned checking the trough switches. Glad we were able to help you out.

Looking closer at the pic you posted of your trough switch, the switch arm should be a flat arm and not a wire arm. Your switch arm is the wrong one. it should be a flat metal arm not a wire arm.

Here is the switch you need: https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/5647-12693-08

The fun of getting a newly acquired pin up to par. I am sure you will find more hidden gems to fix. Part of the fun of getting a new pin in the house.

I just noticed you are in Scottsdale. I have a switch if you do not want to order one and have to pay for shipping. Let me know.
