Howdy-
I've got an Addams Family. It came with a TAFG program ROM installed (not a factory chip--it has a handwritten label). When I turn it on, it says "TESTING 50038 REV. LA-3"
It came with one original factory TAF sound ROM installed in U18. When I play the game, there are times when the game is quiet, when it seems that there should be a sound & there isn't (like going into the electric chair & activating a Cousin It mansion room). Indeed, when I go through the "SOUND + MUSIC" test menu, all sounds play except for these 3:
37 "IT'S HIDEOUT"
38 "15 MILLION"
40 "THIS IS LUNACY"
The game came bundled with 2 extra chips with handwritten labels that say "TAFG U15 SOUND" & "TAFG U18 SOUND". When I remove the TAF U18 ROM & install the TAFG U18 & U15 ROMs (in the correct sockets & with the chip notches pointing in the correct direction), the machine emits a strange series of clicks & pops when booting up. Then, there are zero sounds during gameplay. The self-test reports a sound I/O error (or something to that effect--I forget the exact wording).
Is there anything I'm missing, or does it appear that 1 or both of these 2 TAFG sound ROMs are bad?
I'm not particular about sticking with the TAFG program (unless it is indeed way better), as long as I get the sounds working correctly. So, assuming that I haven't overlooked something in my experiments, I figure I could either downgrade the program ROM from the TAFG to TAF & that will fix the sound, or I can get a new pair of TAFG sound ROMs.
If I need new ROM(s), what's the preferred source?
Thanks,
-Jason
