Yeah, all kinds of fun stuff in that one. Looks like they added a transformer to use for their voltage and changed a few things under the playfield.
Nice amount of surface rust on that factory transformer.
If Wikipedia is correct, this probably supports that they did a voltage step up from 100V to the needed 115/120V using that black transformer:
"The Taito Corporation (株式会社タイトー kabushikigaisha taitō?) is a Japanese publisher of video game software and arcade hardware wholly owned by publisher Square Enix. Taito has their headquarters in the Shinjuku Bunka Quint Building in Yoyogi, Shibuya, Tokyo,[1] sharing the facility with its parent company.[2][3]
Taito is best known for producing hit arcade games, such as Space Invaders and Bubble Bobble. They have produced arcade games all around the world, while also importing and distributing American coin-op video games in Japan. Taito also owns several arcades in Japan known as Taito Stations."
Taito Corporation currently has a subsidiary in Beijing, China. In the past, the company had operated divisions in North America, Brazil, South Korea and Italy.
