Maybe there are still some empty screw holes inside the main cabinet or on top of the lightbox where they'd added a really big bell or special gizmo. Looks like it was only using one of the two switches on the relay.

Quoted from Bublehead:

My first guess is they had something hooked up so once a certain number of balls were added, the score to add more was increased, kind of a poor mans EM add a ball reflex circuit.

Except if it did only use the one switch as it appears, all this relay would be able to do is click on and off when a ball was added, no locking switch (?)

Didn't these already have a knocker? So bell or gong don't make as much sense now if they could have just wired it to that.

Quoted from dmarston:

If you have one switch on the relay being used, and that switch is normally open, you should suspect that the switch is handling a different voltage than the voltage into the coil. (Otherwise, why not just feed the voltage to whatever is being switched on?) I suspect either an extra light on top of the backbox, or maybe even a ticket dispenser.

Does the game look modified anywhere else, like the coin door, extra wires or screw holes around there?
That added grey wire that's routed around the wiring bundle which appears to have been cut from the relay... where does the other end of it end up?

Quoted from Jets_1479:

same I believe the grey wire is holding the wires together it’s doing what they wax string normal does.

I dunno, looks like a wax tie is still there a few inches from where it starts going vertical. Just winding it around the bundle would be a simple way of keeping the new wire with the bundle without adding additional ties. Not the best way, but a way.
