No one can count on Stern to provide parts support for this game 10 yrs down the road... I think this screw-in window has everything to do with the now, and dealing with potential playfield manufacturing issues in the short term. Nothing the company is currently doing is user-centric... I can't imagine them taking the time to make this one part special just for end-user convenience.
With all the clear coat issues that have been seen in some recent games, I'd guess this has something to do with it as well. As long as the games plays well, with not catches on the edges I see it as a positive. An owner can color match the screws to black, red or yellow and aftermarket companies may make these for years to come.
