I would sure like to get a couple plays in before my surgery to repair a torn Biceps Tendon-Bummer huh-that's what I get for being a 50 yr. old mechanic-oh well.
Question is-should I play or not? Will I completely tear loose what's hanging on-one way to find out,go play some new AC/DC

    #4 12 years ago

That I dunno! But that sounds like OUCH!

If it makes you feel better a co-worker of mine in his late 20's is having surgery for the same thing at the end of the month. Sounds like it is a pretty crappy thing to have to go through by how he describes it.

Thx. jarjar,at least I lasted a little longer than the 20 something yr. old guy,he should've taken his Flintstone Vitamins, like I did.

If you tear loose the bicipital anchor it retracts into the belly of the muscle and complicates surgery as well as worsening prognosis.

Get your arm fixed first. Do the AC/DC as post op rehab.

Sorry for waxing medical.... but that is my field.

docscott,I was kinda hoping you would see my predicament,I have been playing my White Water with a high score last week-with my torn bicep tendon.
I keep it (my arm) in a bent position all the time,I thought the only real harm would be if I extend and straighten the arm-is that necessarily true?,also I have not had any volunteers over here wanting to help me shovel snow, sooo I have been shoveling snow with a torn biceps tendon as well-am I just pressing my luck?Surgery upcoming-in 1 or 2 weeks
Off to bed for now,Sorry JJ for asking the doc a question "on your thread"-----------Kirk

Boy, I bet this thread never had medical advice before. I haven't, of course, seen your MRI. And there are differences depending on whether the tear is proximal or distal (near end or far end), but it is bad news when the whole tendon retracts. Generally you want to do surgery on the biceps tears within two weeks of the trauma if the tear is very bad. I'd take it easy. If it retracts all the way, sometimes it can never be put back in good working order. Get the surgery done, then play all you want.
