Quoted from MikeS:

no thanks. I'll take a bulletproof SAM ACDC over SPIKE any day of the week.

Please remember that I am a massive Stern fan and supporter before I say this. SAM is not as bulletproof as people keep saying. SAM is a known system where Spike is still in its infancy. Time will tell.

Quoted from Reality_Studio:

Anyone know if Colordmd will work in this? I assume so since it's just a re-issue, but double checking in case they change connectors or bolt patterns on VE's.

If Stern use SAM yes. Color DMD will fit, just make sure you buy the metal back box option. If Stern use their Spike system, email color DMD. The guys there are extremely responsive.

Can't imagine it would be spike - should be the same as the other vaults...

I hope you right. Are the current VEs SAM?

Quoted from DaveH:

That is still a big issue for me. I just don’t want to buy another SPIKE game. When the Pro VE came out, it was my first question, what’s the board set in it. I wouldn’t have bought it if the answer was SPIKE. SPIKE will continue to flounder because I won’t buy it. I think that’s a massive problem for Stern going forward.

It is a shame you feel that way, you guys are really missing out on some killer games in my opinion. We too were reluctant at the start. Every pinball manufacturer has gone down this path for their electronics. Now that we have our head around the system, we actually prefer SPIKE over SAM. I am not so sure SPIKE is floundering. Stern revenue is up plenty.

Good thing is, there are so many different pinball machines around, you will never have to buy a SPIKE game.

Okay, so how many problems does a NIB Luci have to have to be a lemon?
1) Had to fix some cabinet damage (see pic, long story)
2) Top right lane ball was hanging up (easy fix)
3) Sunken lower play field window (shimmed it up, still not perfect)
4) Bell gong dragging on play field (Loctite, screwed it in)
5) Lightning flasher bulbs (all 3) popping out onto playfield (wrapped neatly with black electrical tape around socket and base of bulb)
6) Cannon dragging on ramp (adjusted ramp and pushed hard to the right on ramp to get it to quit dragging)
7) Cannon auto firing intermittently (messed with it for days, thought maybe it was a bad opto, finally loosened loom wiring to the cannon and it stopped, for now)
The 8th problem I noticed is that the two spotlights on the sling shots are not on. Are they general illumination or controlled lamps? I looked thru all the tests and tried everything I could find including the new LED tests but nothing on those lights. I assume they are GI and that I'm gonna have to dig in to the game again. I just thought I would post the question first as I'm sick of fixing things...

Looks like the VE has the same issues as the original. The cannon has a plastic cover with screws that hold it on. Check the screws are tight. The cannon cover will touch the balls on the playfield during multiball while the cannon is moving if the cover is not on correctly. We could not get the bulbs to stay in either. We used a small amount of silicon to stick them in their place.

Good luck! Still an awesome game.

Has anyone seen and compared the Pinbits version with what Hooked on Pinball has for a lightning bolt flasher? They look pretty similar but I don’t think the hooked version has flashers on the back? Looks like a lot more leds on the front side though.

We have the Hooked on ones on our original Luci. Plenty bright enough and we still have the original flashers in behind the lightening bolts. There are only LEDs on the front and none on the back. We put them in 2 years ago as per instructions and have had no issues. Hooked on are great to deal with too!

Love it even more the 3rd time around!!!!! Plays lightening fast and packed with plenty of clear window goodness. Completes the Stern domination of my collection (well apart from Flash, but it gets an honorary Steve Ritchie place next to SW and AC/DC).

Very nice. Congratulations!
