Hi,

I noticed that the flasher 31, located under the red dome on the right ramp is stuck on.

This flasher wasn't working anymore, so i did replace the bulb and it stays on all the time.

I checked the manual and saw it's driven by Q31.

I inspected the wires on the socket and followed the cables under the playfield and couldn't find a short or a damaged wire, so my guess is that the transistor (Q31) is bad.

Your advice please ? Should i replace this transistor ? Is there something else you would check or replace on the power driver board ?

Thanks in advance

Could you follow that wire/color back to the driver board?

If so:

Note what pin in the connector drives that flasher.
Disconnect that connector.
Power up the game.
Use your volt meter set to DC VOLTS, 200 range.
Connect black lead to ground test point or screw head securing driver board.
Connect red lead to header pin that corresponds to the wire you traced.
We are expecting to see a constant LO (near zero volts).
Compare to adjacent pins that drive other flashers.
On those we are expecting to see a constant HI (~20 VDC) that blinks downward when the flasher pops.
If you see the above the problem is on the driver board.
If that's the case, I would replace the driver transistor and pre-driver if it has one.

Let us know what you discover!

Hi Cody_chunn,

I"ll try that and report the result, but probably not before sunday.

Thanks a lot.

May seem obvious, but did you use a flasher #89
The main power line to flasher 31 is Orange @ J6-P10. The drive transistor is BLK-VIO @ J6-P7.

Hi Pins4me,

The original flasher wasn't working anymore (from staying on all the time i guess) and i replaced it with another 89 flasher. Thanks for the extra info (connectors).

My right flasher also stopped working, haven't had a chance to look into it yet but please report your progress in case it's the same issue

I mesured the voltage on the pins of the j6 connector today.

With the pinball in attract mode, i mesure various voltages between 12,5 and 19,5 on the various pins on the j6 connector, and 0,01 volt on the pin 7 of J6.

So i guess i should replace the tip 122 located on Q31 on the pdb.

Your advices are welcome, thanks in advance.

Tip 122 located at q31 and his diode replaced. Everything is working like it should

Thanks a lot for the help.

So it was just the diode? Thanks for the update

The tip 122 was shorted. Both the transistor and the diode were replaced.
