After installing Pinball Browser (full version) my friend who has worked in IT his whole life couldn’t get my AC/DC to play Shoot to Thrill instead of another song after altering the software. We followed what instructions we could find and I don’t want to spend a shit load of time on this and I have five rock ‘n’ roll Pins. If this guy can’t figure it out there’s no way I can, I’d be happy to pay somebody to modify my machines. Hate the song choices on some of these pins, especially Rolling Stones. I guess unless you’re a computer geek it’s too complicated for the average person or even a guy that works on software for defense companies. Frustrating as I want to change 3-4 songs on AC/DC, 6 songs on Rolling Stones, 5 songs on Kiss and 5 on Aerosmith. Anybody that would like to help me I’ll gladly pay you whatever you want. HELP!!!!

I understand your pain. But what you need to understand is that song/voice/FX etc. aka sound location HEXs are not named and there are likely thousands. So to replace anything the right way, you have to go through listening, cataloging, and bookmarking every single sound file in the game. Unless someone has done that work for you already via PBs share bookmarks function. Otherwise you and your friend are just cherry picking away at files you think should be replaced, hoping for the best result.

i do find pinball browser easy to use but it has it's limits and you have to work in its boundaries.
Change a sound file at first sounds quite easy, but you have to remember that the sound file you want to change needs the same length as the original file to have the best result. When i would want to change out sound files on a pin i would do the following:
1. Load image
2. sync bookmarks -> if you are lucky someone did a bookmarking for you.
3. if not bookmarked -> sort list by length of sound files and search for your tracks, i would think music tracks to be around the lenght of a minute.
4. bookmark the files and export the files. -> this will hep you to organize it and compare old and new songs very easy.
5. prepare new songs to match length of the original -> maybe only a sniplet if the new song is longer. if the song is shorter you may need to loop, or you have have some silence when the song ends.
6. import songs
7. test image

I have added Shoot to Thrill to my Pro. AC/DC is tough to change songs as it has a repeating intro that gets changed to a new song when the ball is launched. I got it to sound ok but there is a brief gap between the tracks I couldn’t get rid of. PB works great with IM, Aerosmith, LZ. I have done a RS orchestration for a friend if you like to try it? I updated most of the songs to more popular tracks. PM if interested.

BTW, I have no IT background and was able to figure out PB to change songs, add videos, etc to most of my Spike 2 games. Just takes some effort and time to find the location of files you want to replace.

Here are the songs I changed on RS. File will only work on the LE version I believe.

Hello, new user here with an absolutely noobish question. I'm looking to export the music from EHOH without modifying anything, for listening pleasure and that kind of thing. I know that Pinball Browser can technically do it but as a premium feature. I'm fine with paying the $20 but I want to know before I spend if there's any weird catches with this specific game or any other warnings such as no one having bookmarked the files etc.

For each sound file, you can export the file as an MP3 and also export the videos as MP4 files. Click on the down arrow on the far right, and choose the 'Export' option. Then you pick the folder to save the file, and that's it.

Hi, so as it turns out Pinball Explorer doesn't have a Sounds button when loading EHOH, and the videos it finds don't have audio. I assume this is because I'm working with the 1.04 code while PE has support for 1.03, is there any way to get the audio out regardless of this?

all videos do not have sound. Sounds and videos are separate. when the sound button does not appear yes this is an indication that the EHOH version you are trying to modifiy is not supported and it may take some time until it does.

if you only want to listen to the music i think you can turn the pinball machine on let the dj mixer function run.

Stern repeatedly added items in an attempt to block Pinball Browser (and they did the same with Scorbit btw; see here and here)
As a result, a firmware that is released after Pinball Browser is generally missing some features
The current version of Pinball Browser can only fully open EHOH v1.03

Noted. It's not urgent or anything, I'll just keep my ear out for any attempt at bookmarking the new code.

Is my home computer really slow or do others find that it takes a long time to make a change to a video with PB? Sometimes it takes 20 minutes to import the new video. Just wondering if this is common or likely my laptop. Thanks.

#5065 1 year ago

I've learned Audacity and how to use and swap audio files in Pinbrowser. I now want to give video a shot. Can anyone provide details on what I need to do in Pinbrowser to swap video and video files as well? I am running the most current version of Pinbrowser (8.13?l.

I have a video editor (PowerDirector) that I can use to edit and export video clips to MP4. Just need to figure out to use Pinbrowser now. Any instructions and advice is very l appreciated.

Videos are pretty well the same process. Just want to keep the video around the same length (within a couple seconds). Just import the video to the Request number you want to replace. The key is finding the Request number for the video you like to change. You may find some videos don't run at the same speed as the original or the file may crash if you change too many videos. Rush seems to be limited to one video change before the file gets corrupt. Aerosmith, I have added maybe 4 videos but for some reason, when you try to change Last Child, the video will run really slow (but the rest seem to work fine). It can be trail and error.

Ok, thank you. When I click on any video from the drop down menu under the videos tab, it brings this up:

Itried downloading it but am confused where this is supposed to go and integrate into pinbrowser. Can anyone tell me how this process works?

you download the ffmepg binaries. Unzip them and just put them in the pinball browser, where this is located.
they should sit just beside Pinball-browser.exe.
like you have a folder that is called: PinballBrowser813
in there you will find files like:
dotnetzip.dll
naudio.dll
pinball-browser.exe
and some more filders.

in this Pinballbrowser813 (or whatever it is called at your side) you would the ffmpeg files.
in most binaries there are three files, ffmepg.exe, ffplay.exe and ffprobe.exe. I think only some of them are needed but i just can't remember which one.
But if you copy all of them in this folder it should work.

ah should read better: ffmpeg.exe and ffprobe.exe are the files needed

I have had two software guys try to figure this out and we just can’t get it to work.. So frustrated with pinball browser.. either it won’t load from the USB stick or It seems to load but then when I turned the pinball machine back on the factory songs were on it with no modifications. There should be a tutorial on how to fucking get this thing to work. So pissed..

Load from USB stick? Can you clarify what you mean?

Pinball Browser is really not complicated. I'm not sure why your two sw guys can't get it to work, and there's a lot of info on this thread. I mean, I was able to make it work seamlessly, and I'm not a SW guy (OK, maybe a little, but I certainly can't claim that title)

A few points:
- you need to download the full binary image (not the update file!) of the game from stern website, that's what PB can load (and it can take a long time to load sometimes)
- the latest release by stern cannot be opened by Pinball Browser, the usual cat and mouse, so you have to download older revisions (there's a post somewhere outlining which revision PB supports)
- once your modifications are done, you need save the full image from PB, then flash it using BalenaEtcher for ex on a new SD card, and use that one instead of the original in your machine. This will reset to factory default by the way.

With regards to swapping content, ie replacing songs, please be aware that you need to match duration of sound clips, you can't simply replace one sound clip with another one of a complete different size.

Otherwise, there's ton of content and posts in this thread.

I am going to help him out, I have already done a full orchestration for the RS LE for a friend. RS has some really terrible original music, that is for sure.

Like someone else already replied, you actually should not be using a USB stick at all during this process. SD card all the time. You need to use the full SD card image file from Stern, not the update.

Here's an easy way to make sure you are working on the right file. Updates have an .spk file extension and the full SD card image has a .raw extension after unzipped. You want to use the full SD card image to edit.

Does anyone know for the Kiss Pro, what is the file extension for the file to include on the USB? I'm not sure if Stern has changed the older files to a new extension that may not work on PB. When you download the most recent Kiss Pro file from the Stern site, it is a ".spk" file type that is not zipped. This file does not seem to load into PB.

I have a zipped file I downloaded back in March and it includes the file with an ".iso" file type and when you unzip the file, it includes a single file that is a "Disk Image File", that will load into PB. Just wondering if Stern may be changing out the older files on the system so they can't be accessed by PB anymore. Thanks for the help.

Right, my fucking mistake! I thought because Kiss was an older DMD game it still used the USB to update the game. Forgot about the SD Card file! Thanks for pointing that out.

Well I was hoping that PB browser would tackle some newer code. I have been holding off on updating my custom JP and SW code from 1.03 and 1.10 respectively but finally decided to make copies of my custom code and install the latest official code. Just too many changes and fixes included to be running older instructions.

Fingers crossed for some future updates

Yes, sound button has been removed on the new codes, so have to use an earlier version if you want to change any of the music.

So what is the point of PB if you cant change the music/sounds?

#5094 1 year ago
Quoted from jamieflowers:

So what is the point of PB if you cant change the music/sounds?

there is some conflict with newer code versions and Pinball Browser. Pinball Browser needs time until a version is released that will be compatible with newer code.
If the sound button is not available it means Pinball Browser is not supporting the code fully at the moment.

the solution here is to wait until Pinball Browser will support the code or go back in versions and use a code that is fully supported.

There is still a lot that can be done with Pinball Browser even without changing sounds. You can most of the time still alter Videos, Scenes and Texts

#5095 1 year ago

After you change a song in the code, and you find the volume is too low, how are others adjusting the sound? I tried the 'Adjust Volume' under this icon, but it doesn't seem to be consistent. If I increase it to 150%, sometime it has no noticeable change.

In Audacity, I am trying to keep the volume of the track around a '6' on this gauge on the original track before I upload it into the code. Thanks for the help!

In Audacity highlight the entire waveform and goto the effects menu and select Compressor. Use these values, and you can repeat the process if need be to blast the shit out of it. There is no Dynamic Range in Sterns samples, they are compressed out to the max.

Wow. This is helpful!
For years I have struggled to get my PB samples to be sufficiently loud without being distorted. I remember watching a tutorial from a tinkerer with a TRON and he advised using the Compressor effect in Audacity before uploading samples, but he didn't explain just how. At least now I have some values to try! Thanks!

No "Sounds" button in Pinball Browser: SPIKE2(Godzilla): Why?

I haven't used Pinball Browser for a year or so. I had to refresh myself on how to open SPIKE2 firmware.
Here's what I did:

1. Download/unzip SD Card Image of gamecode from Stern's website
2. Use Etcher to flash an image of the gamecode onto a 16GB SD card, loaded in a card reader inserted in my D drive (USB)
3. Launch Pinball Browser and ask it to "read image from D:\"
4. Follow the Pinball Browser prompts to save a copy of said image to my hard drive
5. Quit and then restart Pinball Browser, then ask it to "open firmware" and select the freshly saved copy of the gamecode

When Pinball Browser displays this gamecode, it includes no button marked "Sounds." It has Video, Scorbit, etc., etc., but not Sounds.
What have I done wrong?

Thanks for reading this!

Quoted from cabal:

...
If the sound button is not available it means Pinball Browser is not supporting the code fully at the moment...

Oh, no!
It seems I have my answer!
Are there any Godzilla owners out there with old cold that *are* able to adjust sounds using PB? How can I get my hands on Godzilla gamecode that is "compatible" with PB? Stern only posts the latest code for download.

Any news about modifiying videos? I would like to modify 20+ videos of my EHOH.
1) It's quite complicated to find the matching soundfiles
2) After replacing 3-5 videos the machine keeps crashing (reset) when playing specific videos during games.

So we need to have some kind of understanding, why it crashes and how to avoid that.
I guess it must have something to do with filesize and -length..
