I'll repost my comment from Stern's Facebook post about this...

It's straight up wrong that these Kickstarters exist. Alliance Media Holdings makes $60 million in sales per year, THEY CAN ABSORB THE LICENSING RISK ON THEIR OWN. When Stern makes a new pinball machine they don't come out trying to fleece us into taking their risk for them. Maybe I wouldn't mind if Farsight's products were actually good, but The Pinball Arcade is a glitchy mess, and the fact that they continue to ask for hundreds of thousands of dollars from fans (in addition to the sales that this funding will bring them) is incredibly disrespectful to anyone who supports their products.

Seriously, DON'T give your money for this crap. Farsight can and should be paying for it.

    Quoted from flynnibus:

Or.. they can just skip making the title all together. They don't HAVE to make the game.. this kind of model can make an unlikely product real.
If your stance is 'they should pay for it!!!' - well then face the reality that they might simply not do it at all.

Were Kickstarter not a thing they'd be doing it themselves. At this point though I can see them canning this one in favor of another game (even know the licensing is just as much), because whatever other game would make similar profit, and they'd want us to feel like the Kickstarter failing was the reason they didn't make it, so that way we'd be more likely to fund future Kickstarters.

Yes there are Kickstarters that make products happen that otherwise wouldn't, but there are also Kickstarters from companies who don't need the money at all, and just want to squeeze extra money out of fans.

    Quoted from frolic:

Gary Stern has been very vocal in the past that they "self finance" and don't need pre-order money or crowd funding like his competition has resorted to.

And Gary's a successful and respected business man who is at the top of the pinball industry.

Pinball may not be the most profitable thing out there, but Stern has proven that it's absolutely profitable enough to be self funded, and Farsight has no excuse.

    Quoted from flynnibus:

That.. is a huge assumption.. one that also ignores history. Titles HAVE been passed over because they were cost prohibitive. Same thing happens here.
sure they'd keep making pinball sims.. just not an AC/DC one very likely.

If there's more profitable choices of course they'd make those first. But there's only so many pinball machines to make, and they'll eventually reach a point where this is the most profitable option, and it would get made.

    Quoted from vid1900:

AC/DC will license their image to anything from $1 can openers to $6 flipflops.
    Anything to make a dime.

Difference with this is the digital reproduction of their music. Slapping their name on something is one thing, but letting a company release a product that has files containing the songs themselves, may be a little harder to get the licensors to agree to.
