Finally got around to setting up the O1 I got a few months ago in the game room for a party this weekend. Bought it as a working machine and for the most part it does. Had a few issues though.

Problems:

1. Rear drop target bank was set too high not allowing the stand up targets behind the drops to register.

2. Some light board and sound board issues.

3. Three of the cardboard lamp socket mounts had fallen off the vacuum form playfield.

4. Bonus multiplier lights did not add correctly.

Fixes:

1. Adjusted rear drop target height.

2. Serviced the lamp and sound boards. Reflowed headers, replaced (2) T106's, and found broken trace on lamp board.

3. This was a pain, reglued cardboard mounts to playfield.

4. Watched the way the lamps acted during game play when the 3 bank targets were dropped. Ended up that the bonus multiplier lights were just placed in the wrong socket.

All-in-all not too bad but damn, you have to be gentle when working on this playfield. There is no way this thing could have lasted when on location, I can't see any operator or service tech having the patience to make the game work right without destroying it.

Sounds like a great time Marc....sure your place will be rockin'

Still an interesting table design. I would like to try one out sometime.

One of the two highlights from going to the PHOF - It was not working 100% but still fun to get the ball back into play by holding the flippers up just right

Agreed. I only bought it because it was available, rare and unique. But...after playing it this morning it is quite fun and challenging, granted I like Varkon and Hercules too.

Love that game, would get super boring in a small collection. To bad the playfield is so sparse. It could have been so much better. Practically nothing to shoot at...still fun though..

I don't know this Varkon game but you sir have great taste... I love Hercules... sure not the pin I want in the living room, but perhaps someplace in my dream arcade.

Not to crap on your point, but there is one on location here in MN.

I have no idea how well it's serviced, but it's worked well every time I've got in to play it.

Thank you for keeping a rare piece of pinball history alive!

More than likely they put it out there and abandoned it until they rotated or junked it.

O1 the only pin that I know of that you can flip the ball backwards to the lower apron, and the ball may not drain. I played one once at a Distributor, I never saw it again either there or in an arcade. The timed play is a bonus as quick ball drains seem common. It will make you want to pull your hair out, or cuss. You have to try one, add it to your 'done that list'.

It will really, *really* make you learn how to drop-catch.

I think it's a lot better than people give it credit for, but it is a novelty game and not really a pinball machine. Mine's not going anywhere.

got a chance to play this several times at the allentown show... it certainly was different... even after several games, i had no clue how you might control the ball...

be a cool thing to have in a big collection though...

Mine is running on ball count and not timed. The first one I played back in 2011 at TPF was timed and it really turned me off to the game. This one, set to a 5 ball game, is much funner in my opinion.

I had one on route for 10 years or so.

It never made big cash, but it was a steady earner.

It will never wear out, just be careful never to break the neck off of the drain.

Awhile back I did see a parts one on eBay missing the backbox but had the rest with playfield was on eBay.

for a novelty pin it's closer to safecracker and further away from hercules. after a round on herc i had my fill. orby1 and safecrack at least have some 'one more game' factor.

Any game is fun when each player has $20 on the glass

I had mine at CP pinball for quite some time. The biggest problem was the flipper rubbers coming off. Mine has a dirty opto for the top "pop" but other than that, it's rock solid.

I have a large collection, but I think mine will stay forever.

Always wanted to play a couple games on one of these.
What is current market on one in good shape with no broken plastic?

#20 7 years ago

Orbitor 1. Someday, I too shall get one, just cuz it's such a wonky pin. Congrats!

It bounces a LOT because they are pretty rare. The last good shape one that I know of sold for around $3k. The one before that was $1200.

There is an Orbitor 1 at the Michigan Pinball Expo every year that I really enjoy playing. I doubt that I will come across one for sale, but I wouldn't mind adding it to my collection if I did. Lots of fun in my opinion, it is different and challenging and looks pretty cool.
