    Not sure I completely understand your question.

    Williams type 1 and type 2 sound boards (found in Sys 3-7 machines) have a switch on them so that you could choose between electronic sounds and chime sounds though the electronic "chimes" are certainly not as rich as real chimes.

    If you want to swap a real chime box into an early SS machine, the only ones that I know of that you could do that with are the Game Plan cocktails with the SSU-1 sound board. Those sound boards could be removed and the GP chime box plugged in directly and work without modification.
