Back in the day, you could get pinball parts at Radio Shack, along with vacuum tubes for your TV!

Wow, all you need is 50 million to qualify to come back and play for the actual pin. I would be all over that if I was anywhere near local.

A pinball in a Radio Shack? It's prime for:

- Company happy hours
- Bachelor parties
- Hosting clients
- Birthdays
- Film shoots

Spock, can you add flippers to that thing?

Most logical, Captain.

That's not a Radio Shack. It's his living room made to look like a Radio Shack

It's missing TMNT sheets and a 4 player MAME pedestal.

Negative, captain.

My local Radio Shack is usually filled with people activating mobile phones. I go there on occasion to find miscellaneous repair parts, usually LEDs, resistors....

Having a pin to play while I wait for the line of people there for phone service, would make it more tolerable.

I miss the old Radio Shack I grew up with in the 70's and 80's. There used to be neat stuff there.

Now it's just a small, poorly run consumer electronics store.

First thing that popped into my head too.

Well be fair...you stopped going there and buying the neat stuff, right?

I honestly have no idea how RS is still in business, but the fact is they have to sell what people want. And in 2014 it ain't all that "neat stuff" from back in the day.

I love that they still exist. I still stop in there from time to time to get what I need that day - fuses, connectors, various tools and solder. That bin in the back of every store with the fuses and diodes...it's the same at every store and a great resource.

Doubt they'll be around much longer.

Who said I was buying stuff? I was a kid then.

Fry's has replaced Radio Shack for me as an adult.

#23 5 years ago

Will Radio Shack still be in business by the time the tournament starts?

Maybe all the Radio Shack's can rebranded to Pinball Shack's

#24 5 years ago

I don't think he stopped going there and buying the neat stuff, I think he stopped going there because you cannot buy the neat stuff there anymore. Last time I went to my local RS, they didn't have anything more than a few fuses that were relevant to pins.

I still have my first Radio Shack catalog, 1974, and every month their flyer had a coupon for something for free or 1 cent. I still have one of those free flashlights. I recently needed a 3/32" male stereo plug (solder) to adapt a Lanc cable for my new camcorder. Couldn't find it on Amazon or eBay. Guess what? They have it at every local Radio Shack, $3.39. The veteran that works there says they don't sell many of those anymore. I have a feeling those stores won't be there much longer.

Maybe someone actually responded to his craigslist ad and rented his bedroom, and now he is moving into radio shack.

Half the time they are out of the fuses I need and if they have them they are $125 each. That is all the one close to me has other than cell phones.

And I thought my local hardware store was high priced at $2.99 per fuse

Ouch. Time to buy in bulk online.

I am assuming this is the same radio shack thing mentioned in local CA pinball group(s)?

I see TJ's hair is bright orange again. Dude seriously needs to add some variety. Bright orange hair is old and busted.

the article says "The chain(radio shack), a key resource for pinball owners" ... really?!? unless I need a fuse or a common transistor or diode(which they usually don't have) they are useless to us.

I'm going to laugh when a transistor fries and they have to drive down the road to another electronics parts outlet to replace it.

Maybe they will disassemble the pin to create a stock of pin parts to sell.

I have a feeling Kaneda is also a photographer?

RS is everywhere around here and they usually have the common parts. Besides transistors and diodes, they also have things like resistors, fuses, fuse holders and clips, solder, shrink tubing and lots of other stuff I sometimes need in a hurry. Why should I drive 10 miles to Fry's to pay the same price I can pay on the corner at RS? Bashing RS is stupid. They are a resource. Use them when you need to.

Quoted from Troutfarm:

I'm guessing MCC will come out of semi-retirement for this one. The format, entry fee and prize are all right in his wheelhouse. I bet Andrei will give it a whirl too. Plus, there's already an armada of us common folks massing down in the south bay for a journey north soon. 880 won't be safe for another month or so. Just sayin...

#44 5 years ago

Let me guess, when the machine breaks, there is no one at Radio Shack who would know how to fix it. I'm sure Radio Shack employees would have a heck of a time just figuring out how to unlock the coin door!

Never trust a guy with orange hair.

Freakin' cell phone shack is what it should be called. Those guys probably can't solder correctly. Sure they have some things at crazy prices. Only use them when I need something they actually have and need it now. Thank god for online ordering.........

I didn't gather this yet, is this every radio shack or just one?

Just one...in Oakland to celebrate the ban on pinball there being lifted.

True story at Radioshack:

Associate: Hey buddy, what can I help you with?
Vid: I just need some alligator clips, I know where they are.
A: Who's your cellphone with?
Vid: Decepticom.
A: How's about you let me save you some money on your phone bill?
V: How are you going to do that?
A: Give you a lower price. What are you paying?
V: $39 a month. Unlimited Data/text/voice.
A: OK.....I'm going to make you a happy man today........ (he's poking in the computer).
A: Alright, how does $99 a month sound; UNLIMITED?
V: I just told you I pay $39 a month, unlimited. Why would I want to pay $99?
A: Because I never heard of this Decepticom!
V: Just the clips for today.
A: You sure??? Pick out any of these phones! (points to the showcase) I'm saving you like big cash if you add it all up. You know, if you REALLY compare.
V: Just the clips.
