Quoted from vicjw66:Is that the Blue Sky mine?
Thankfully not
Great song,
Tragic story
The song refers to the Wittenoom asbestos mine in Western Australia where blue asbestos was mined between 1947 and 1966. The once-thriving town is now a virtual ghost town. Shops are boarded up, the 2 schools are closed, the local cinema is derelict. In their ignorance, the original settlers used asbestos in gardens, school yards and roads. Wittenoom is without doubt Australia's greatest industrial disaster and it is estimated that 25% of the 20,000 men who mined asbestos there will die from related diseases.
Quoted from fiberdude120:I have always wanted to drive one of those. How is is up that high.
Its pretty crazy, like driving a 2 story house on wheels .
Quoted from jaytrem:Now that's a pin hauler!
These trucks can carry close to 400 tonnes, could fit at least 100 machines (legs off) in the tray
Quoted from punkin:I was at one of the local pubs yesterday, i guess the bar staff eventually stop thinking about this hanging over their heads.

Is that a pun on schooner ?
Ill be down Woopi in a couple of weeks
Working in the Australian outback today.
Incredible amount of wildlife considering how dry it is at the moment. Got an Emu family but unfortunately I was not quick enough to capture the 3 separate sightings of Incredible wedged tail Eagles on side of the road getting a feed of roadkill.

Train load out at a central QLD coal mine today. Incredible amount of wildlife in this harsh environment. The dam catches wash, silt and all sorts of crap from the mine, unbelievably the birds and other wildlife have adjusted and thrive. The red pig weed reminds me of War of the World's
20210825_090740 (resized).jpg20210825_090905 (resized).jpg20210825_092341 (resized).jpgSpent my entire week off working in the yard.
Note to self, not to be a plumber in my next life.
Im not very good at it and digging dirt is no fun.
Too tired at the end of the day to finish playfield post protection on my GnR
Owned for 2 months and still no game play
At least the mrs is happy with new vegetable garden. Off to work again now for another week. Maybe some pinball next break

[quoted image]
Man, I wish that we could get some of that icecream down under
Quoted from punkin:Just spotted this guy in the garden out the front.
[quoted image]
Quoted from dirkdiggler:Spent most of the day laying a new floor in a bedroom downstairs. Now the fun job of picking a wall color
[quoted image]

Dulux Grand Piano 1/4 is a very nice neutral.
More flight photos,

Mackay QLD Australia coal port, pix shows a handful of bulk carriers lined up like missiles to take our black gold to various countries.
I only captured some, there is usually around 30 + ships queued up.
Flying out of Brisbane this morning.
Iconic Story Bridge Australia's longest cantilever bridge on the right.
If you happen to visit Brisbane and have no problem with heights, it's a great climb.
New casino under construction central to photo, opposite the giant ferris wheel.
Quoted from golfingdad1:Sunday drive ..

Home time from work,
Got to the airport early for a change, got stuck into some James Squire 50 lashes for a nice flight .listening to some epic Van Halen.
Only one more round of flights to go and then I'm out.
Really looking forward to just being at home Playing some pinball .
Quoted from punkin:Retiring mate?
Oh man, I wish,
I've had a gutful of flying, this covid escalation is certainly making life more difficult. So gonna have some time out for a few months.
Got a home reno to finish then plans to hire a flash caravan for 6 weeks to travel Queensland.
First real time out in my 40+ years of working. Crazy, I've only come to realise life's too short.
Quoted from punkin:They had to pick comp day to shut the street for reseal.
[quoted image]
Oh, bugga,
Might have to set up a golf cart shuttle for the foot path
Enjoy your Sunday session !
Quoted from punkin:Maybe piggyback races up and down the footpath, in the spirit of competition?
After everyone has a brownie of course.
Oh man, that would be great fun, make for some awesome Jackass style entertainment
Looking forward to some photos if possible.
Quoted from mbwalker:Time to do some yard drainage mitigation! Is that typical?
Yes, im working on a drainage system solution. The crazy flooding at Brisbane is so far a one in 10 year event around here.
Quoted from punkin:I'm 3 hrs drive south and it hasn't stopped raining for weeks. It happens most summers.
There was a good one going a few years ago when Brisbane washed away after it rained for weeks.
Seems like the rain is never going to stop. I feel so bad for the missus, she just keeps staring though the window and crying.
If it keeps up i'm gunna have to let her in.
Stay dry mate,
Don't let this happen
Lots of waterworld madness in QLD and Northern NSW, I week of relentless rain, Noah's ark kind of stuff.
Video of some drama.....

Quoted from punkin:That's no good mate.
I am fortunate that was not me.
Very sad for the collector that lost these high end titles. I hope that he has insurance.
Dunno how a GnR CE could be replaced ?
Quoted from phantasmo:vampire gorge
out the back of Wittenoom, an abandoned asbestos mine.
[quoted image]
Wow, amazing, thanks for sharing.
Big story behind this location.
A song dedicated to this place by an Iconic Australian band, Midnight Oil, or mostly referred to as The Oils !
Great Aussie band with a long and complex history, I notice they are touring the USA.
Quoted from punkin:Who's a happy boy?
[quoted image]
Vegemite on crumpet with a side glass of milk, Happy boy indeed
A recipe that I can manage and very enjoyable.
Perfect after a big Sunday session

Quoted from punkin:Got that sorted too, baked Cherry Ripe Brownies with green butter yesti.
[quoted image]

Looks very tasty !
Can you figure out a way to butter up those wagon wheels
A recent visit to Grafton NSW Australia.
I am upset that the trip was so brief to visit sister and I had no chance to catch up with the wild man of Whoopi @punkin.
Hopefully next time.

Put some Chinook in the freezer along with a lingcod and some big rockfish. Most importantly I got to spend some time with my Dad and a great friend and his family who invited us. Nootka Sound, British Columbia on the way out for a fish, and the resort where we had our catch packed up.
[quoted image][quoted image]
Awesome ! well done on your father son time.
Great photos !
Beautiful country
Have to say Canada is at the top of out bucket list for places to visit.
Simply stunning.
Quoted from punkin:How come Sydney? have you got rellies there or something you particularly want to see?
I'd look at Brisbane for a family trip, warmer, all the theme parks are there, beaches and girlies AND it's only 3.5 hr's to mine.
Good call punkin,
Brisbane is warmer and friendlier, so much more on offer, way better than Sydney, I grew up there.
Consider aiming for late winter or spring.
Spring - the three transition months September, October and November.
Summer - the three hottest months December, January and February.
Autumn - the transition months March, April and May.
Winter - the three coldest months June, July and August.
Have a go at some Straya Slang, good fun ere'
http://www.australiatravelsearch.com.au/trc/slang.html
Timing is everything, Summer and Autumn is usually wet , winter is magic, especially on the Gold and Sunshine Coast beaches.

Aussie Kookaburra's on our back fence.
Waiting for a feed.
Hungry birds,
Not Punkins friend is my guess.
Quoted from jaytrem:Not yet, river has got to be dropping soon. And one of my pumps is giving me issues, so running a backup one manually.
Best wishes, hope all clears for you soon.
Some very nasty flooding here also in nth QLD,
Hope all the cairns boys are ok.
