Quoted from Darcy:And it is technically still Summer! Got to love the capital region.
You're right...June 21 - Sep 22.
Someone tell mother nature it's technically still "summer."
IMG_20180913_0943108.jpgIMG_20180913_0943166.jpgQuoted from yzfguy:Last jump ever??
Yup....time to move on to different endeavors. More money for future pins
Quoted from yzfguy:Blew that lounge chair right off the deck?
Haha no. It's placed there temporarily to keep the dogs off lawn. We just seeded the grass two days ago. Same with the flowers, they were just potted two days ago.
I guess we started too early? Lol
Quoted from zombywoof:This just struck me as so absurd. Acres of parking lot, but this guy has found his spot.
[quoted image]
We had a female that began nesting at our shooting range at work. She was on top of the berm.
When we would head out to the firing line, the male would fly away. We would begin shooting and the female stayed there to protect her nest. When we were done shooting the male would return. Pretty impressive to see a goose hunker down 50/25/15/5 yards away from rifles, handguns and shotguns being shot.
I'll have to get a picture next time.
Quoted from TractorDoc:I've been hearing a lot of planes overhead the last couple months. Apparently a skydiving outfit is operating out of the county airport and cooped up thrill seekers have been taking the leap. I spent a few minutes today watching as the plane would fly by, circle, and eventually release its cargo.

I don't know how long it takes to pack a parachute but there seems to be jumpers every half hour or so. Maybe they have a lot of parachutes.
Takes about 10-15 minutes to pack one.
Quoted from Atari_Daze:Any of them have a streamer yet and have to pull the reserve?
I've seen it happen twice. Back in college a buddy and I played golf at a course way out in the country and there was a jump school was next door. Two separate we times watched divers dump their main and pull the reserve. Fortunately they both were successful but lead to some tense moments watching. I will say it was slightly distracting when they were overhead, I was always watching them drift down and not playing golf. Every so often the wind would shift and they would land on our fairway, always wondered if that was a 'seasonal' hazard.
I've seen it a few times. It happens more than you'd think. Bad packjob, deploy the chute in an improper body position, get a violent line twist you can't kick out of and losing altitude etc...
I've never had to do it myself but came close when I pulled on my line straps too hard after a deployment and the canopy folded onto itself. Dropped a hundred feet instantly. Lucky for me I had plenty of altitude and managed to get the chute to come back. All in a matter of seconds. That was my last jump that day, lol
Quoted from dirkdiggler:Neighbors roof[quoted image]
I'm glad we covered the tomatoes and cucumbers last night. Went down to -3°C last night. Way too early for the furnace to be on. Brrrrr
Random roof shot...lol
I had to do the same for the tomatoes the last two nights. Not as cold as your neck of the woods but getting there.
Quoted from rad:Maroon Bells and goat pics: taken with my iPhone (SE). No photoshoping or enhancements.
Goats were not scared of us - we could be within ~25 feet before they decided we were too close. [quoted image][quoted image]
Is that a Moose in the water in that first pic?
Quoted from LTG:Head turned so you can't see the long nose, looks like a big rack on the head. I'd go with moose.
LTG : )
That's what i was thinking. Looks like he has that typical flap of skin hanging under his chin. (Dewlap)
Quoted from mtn-:Sorry, but what is it that you are growing in the small patch in the middle of the first pic? Im just curious.
Looks like corn.
Quoted from dirkdiggler:Nice looking pooch. What's his name? Are you at the rabbit hill rd off leash area? Used to love going there with our golden retriever when we lived there.
That's my 4 year old black Lab named Matilda. She's a small field lab. And we were at the Terwillegar off leash dog park. That's our favorite dog park.
Quoted from Darcy:It is 7:25 PM May 18th, the weather report was for snow. I thought they were being optimistic.
[quoted image]
Quoted from JPloof:Gotta love Alberta. 20 degree Celsius swing from the weekend. Lots of white stuff on my morning walk.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Around 1am it was really coming down. Sideways actually
Quoted from dirkdiggler:Wife saw her first Oriole in six or seven years so she went and hung a feeder for them. Now the hummingbirds keep trying to figure it out before returning to their feeder. Also the yellow finches returned this week.
Tablet pics make my lawn look like all dirt.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
You can buy small hand held feeders shaped like flowers for the hummingbirds and see if you can feed them yourself. I've done it in the past and it's a really neat feeling watching a hummingbird eat out of your hand.
Quoted from mtn-:I once held a hotdog up in the air so a seagull could take it. Haha
It's probably not as mesmerizing
Damn shit hawks!!
Quoted from mcluvin:How about this?
Imagine the poor guy who'se car windshield will most likely bear the brunt and damage from that digested rabbit turned seagull shit!!!
Quoted from RyanStl:I didn't know plastic wrapping a bale was a thing. Is that so UPS doesn't F' it up when you ship?
I believe it's to preserve it. So the moisture and/or elements don't accelerate its degradation. They do the same here.
Correct me if I'm wrong doc....
Quoted from Yipykya:For the past 2 months, everyday, this barred owl has been constantly hooting day and night next to my house in the woods. I found it enjoyable and relaxing.
[quoted image]
Then nothing. I noticed immediately when it stopped because it had been so constant and consistent.
I actually just found the carcass a couple blocks away in the middle of the road. I'm saddened and miss it so much.
That's a shame
I hold a special place in my heart for a few animals. Owls are one of them.
Quoted from EJS:Well the “yard work” from a few posts above is all loaded up. Unfortunately can’t post the back of my truck in the “what machine did you bring home today” thread. Maybe soon not sure.
[quoted image]
That's about 35K worth of wood these days.
Quoted from LTG:Looks like a Common Golden Eye.
LTG : )
Quoted from ReadyPO:Yep, female with her chicks. Male has a lot more white plummage and a white spot on the face. Should be some yellow on the tip of the bill but I think can't see due to the picture resolution.
Right on! I wasn't sure. The Canadian geese that were breeding have owned that little pond since about May. Haven't seen any other species in there until today.
At first it looked like a duck/loon hybrid. But once I got a little closer I realized it was a duck.
Sorry about the pics I had to zoom in with my phone. Momma wouldn't let me get close at all. Having my dog with me probably didn't help

Quoted from jaytrem:My poor lawn...
[quoted image]
That's 75k in wood. You could have your entire lawn/yard professionally redone 50 times with that money!!!
Quoted from Birdnest:Had a couple of bee swarms today - one was mine and the other was new renters - of course one was in a pine tree on a steep slope
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Neat!
Beekeeping is something that interest me as a hobby when I reach retirement.
There's an apiary thread on Pinside if you're interested. Fyi
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/the-apiary-any-pinball-hobbiest-who-keep-bees
Quoted from JayDee:Ha! That would be interesting. Maybe I’ll try this garden flag first to see what happens
[quoted image]
My wife has that same pattern for a face mask she made.
Quoted from EJS:I prefer my steaks medium or medium rare, sorry
No food was harmed.
Quoted from Sputnik:Is it quality crack?
Not sure. Apparently the water tower has been like that for 15 years. And Mr. Miller still sells crack to this day.
Quoted from punkin:Everyone thought it was an insult, but it was an advertisement.
Free advertising for 15 years that didn't cost Mr. Miller one cent, lol
Quoted from ImNotNorm:Sorry if I'm posting a lot lately.....
Here's the fire hall/station of a small town I'm visiting. The sign on the front of the building indicating it was a fire hall/station caught on fire last spring.
The irony is not lost on me.
[quoted image]
I'm wondering if the Fire Department saw my Pinside post from a few days ago. Because they were working on the front of the building when I was doing my daily walk with the dogs this morning.
IMG_20210721_0946462.jpgQuoted from dirkdiggler:That's one wicked skyline. Like a mini point blank ending
Vaya can dios brah!!!
Quoted from oldskool1969:West Coast Pinball Festival tournament line up

Instead of calling it corn on the cob & corn, shouldn't it be referred to as corn & corn off the cob?
Calling it corn on the cob never made sense to me.
Quoted from JohnnyPinball007:Someday I hope to see all of that for myself.
Awesome pics!
Just noticed I got the big dipper in the second picture as well
Quoted from hwyhed:Cuz you don’t see this everyday..
[quoted image]
I like the Spy vs. Spy art on the side.
Quoted from yzfguy:Eff that.
I concur. 3 straight weeks of this shit. The daily high yesterday was -30.
Quoted from poppapin:Cool topper! Is that hanging from the ceiling?
Yes sir! Used some fishing wire.
Is it still a topper if it doesnt actually touch the top of the head?
