    Quoted from dirkdiggler:

Every year I say to the wife "I'm done with this shit. Either we move to the west coast or somewhere tropical"

Two words fire and hurricanes. At least with hurricanes if you are high enough (elevation) it might be ok but that air conditioner bill!

Picture of where I used to work at before they escorted me out with security. 32 years and this is how they treat you nowadays? Building on the right next to the canal.

First Snow of the Year![quoted image][quoted image]

No snow here only flurries. Just tired of seeing only dead stuff.

    Quoted from punkin:

You guys have got the best mushrooms out. I like hunting shrooms, but you only get Agaricus, slippery jacks, milk caps etc in the wild here. Everything else i wanted to try i had to grow. Never quite got around to trying to grow morels, they are complicated, but grew Lions Manes and some other of your wild ones.

I heard someone say that the cultivated morels don't taste as good as the wild ones.

Trying to positive but talking about morels got me thinking on this news report yesterday. Two mushroom hunters here found a body of a small kid (estimate 5-7 years old) that had been killed about a week ago. I hope they catch who did this.

    FULL story below.

Hoping this is the last of it for the season. Power's been out since 2am and we're not supposed to get it back for a couple more days. Heavy, heavy snow...

Is that "lake effect" or are you not near Erie?

    Quoted from JeffF:

Generator has been through it's paces over the last 20 years. LOL. Was thinking about upgrading but haven't pulled the trigger yet. This may give me that push to do so.

Generac used to run commercials on whole house generators that started at $1,999.00 but that was before COVID. Not sure what they are now but I did hear they had a 5 month backlog on them.

    Quoted from ReadyPO:

Bleeding Hearts in Bloom. Beautiful spring flowers but they don't last long.
    [quoted image]

I had some around the house I told my brother and a friend of his was doing the yard work and pulled them up thinking they were weeds.

Also had one of the solid white bleeding hearts they are good looking too. Yes I do have a green thumb.

    #3708 1 year ago
    Quoted from punkin:

Pretty harsh to sell your own brother over flowers.

OK punkin I'm getting old and all these keys look alike.

Frankly it worries me as I am correcting a lot of my posts lately and I have my glasses on.

    Quoted from mbwalker:

We have quite a few red tail hawks around us. Every once in awhile I'll see one on the power lines and realized they're a pretty good sized bird.

Just a word of WARNING. A friend of mine a few years ago starting talking about Redtail hawks and how he was in Indianapolis on the southside and watched this Redtail hawk come down and just snatched this cat (size was somewhere between a kitten and a full grown cat) from a alley and just carried it away. I'm sure a puppy would be within it's weight limit too so I would keep an eye out just in case. But frankly it's coyotes that I would really be worried about they are everywhere even in the cities.

    Quoted from pinwiztom:

    Darn squirrels.
They have eaten holes thru the screen netting already, in barely one week of setting things up.
    [quoted image]

No dog? They love to hate those squirrels! This happened about 25 years ago I was outside in the car waiting on my brother and looked over at a squirrel balancing on the top of a 6 foot wooden fence teasing my brothers dog by flicking it's tail at her. Cruel little thing knew what it was doing and just loved it. Kind of giving the dog a

    God is Good.
    [quoted image]

Never been to St Petersburg mtdouble but have visited and stayed awhile in Sabastian, Vero Beach, West Boca Raton, Marathon (1 whole month) and loved everyday I was there. But those summers I don't wish on anyone. Know a few snowbirds that drive between here and there or even better fly. The only down point about Marathon was every morning I would wake from a dead fish smell coming from the ocean.

    Quoted from DCP:

The old warehouse that I use for a garage and storage is only 30 feet from a major freight railway owned by CSX. My black-and-white avatar shows how it looked in the 1950s. It's not much different today.[quoted image]

My first house I bought and lived in for about 15 years the back property line is at Conrail's tracks. The house was built in 1927 and I was only the third owner. The guy before me owned it for three so you can do the math. The house had the single pane wood windows that shook when the train would run by. Someone asked me if the planes from the airport bothered me and I always said no the trains drown them out. Indianapolis airport is close by also and sometimes the planes flightpaths are near.

I am in the process of selling the place to my brother in 2008 but I also liked the place. By the way I also changed the windows so they don't shake and it is quieter in the house.

punkin your mum will be in my prayers and wishing her a speedy recovery. Visit her when and as often as you can as it helps her along.

My mother a few years ago had to have her spine glued together and I was there everyday I could. Those visits make their day and helps them while they recoup.

More iPhone images from my son over in Italy.[quoted image][quoted image]

Beautiful! What more could I say? Just a few years ago prices were pretty low there.

    Quoted from dirkdiggler:

Pretty menacing looking clouds on the drive home tonight. Didn't produce much of anything except a pretty rainbow
    [quoted image][quoted image]

We had a little more here 3 tornadoes (2 E0's 85mph downward/ 1 E1 86-110 mph) Lucky the closest was tow counties over from me.

    Quoted from Pugster:

Where we live in BC we have been really hammered by wildfires the last, well, pretty much forever. One little bonus though is the Morel mushrooms that thrive for a couple of years after a fire. Every year we head into the bush and hunt for them. This was from two days ago with my wife and parents (75 & 76 and still hiking in the bush!).
    [quoted image][quoted image]

Funny they look cooked before they are cooked.

I remember once my grandmother when she was alive took us down the railroad tracks looking for morels. I was 10-11 and found two good sized ones and that was the only ones we found. I felt good at having a keen eye back then not so much now with these bifocals.

I haven't seen one of those since the movie "Phone Booth". I always remember the (quote lady) who kept telling him to get off the phone!

    Quoted from aFineMoose:

It was busy on the dock today. Both our dock and the next door neighbour’s. Those Beech-18s take up a lot of space. Never seen four at once before.
    [quoted image][quoted image]

Reminds me of a James Cagney movie 1942 Captains of the Clouds. Pretty good show and having to do with Canada's move from bush piolets to an air force for WW 2. If you watch look for some of other actors you know.

    Quoted from ReadyPO:

some large limbs off Silver Maple next to Driveway.
    [quoted image][quoted image]

ReadyPO thank goodness it wasn't worse. Silver Maples IMO should never be planted on a property as they are soft wood and attract Carpenter ants which are not as bad as termites but cause the next amount of damage to homes. That storm missed me as we had lots of stormy looking clouds but no rain.

    #4141 1 year ago
    Quoted from ReadyPO:

Yeah we inherited it when we bought the property. Sugar Maple right next to it, no damage. Neighbors Silver Maple, no damage. We have talked about cutting this down before, but we will probably just trim it up. It is pretty far from the house so no danger there.

Thought here find out where the sewage line is from the house to street. Had to replace mine just a month after buying my house and cut 2 trees down and had them grind the stumps. Total bill for all of it $5900.00. Could have bought a pin for that amount of money.

    #4144 1 year ago
    Quoted from mcluvin:

Did the previous owner disclose it?
I ask because it is highly unlikely the previous owner wasn't aware. If they didn't disclose and you didn't purchase as-is, you may have recourse.

No, the drain was working when I first bought the house and I did have a home inspector look at the property. But home inspectors will tell you if I can't see it, they aren't responsible for it. Which I have to agree with. Some advice I have learned the hard way is this. Homes and cars if you are buying used the owner is ALWAYS hiding something. It's a good one to live by.

    #4178 1 year ago
    Quoted from Birdnest:

Have to take advantage of the 3 days of summer that we get in Canada

But those days are long! The sun never sets if your far enough north, or at least very little.

    #4188 1 year ago

If that was Lake Erie wouldn't you be afraid those fireworks would set it on fire again? If you look very closely I think I can see a boat from Canada slipping into US waters. Boat people?
