This maple in our front yard is usually the prettiest of all our trees this time of year. There is a small paperbark maple with red leaves in the planter that is growing very slowly in the shadow of the big tree. But it manages to add an inch or so every year.

Not long now, it'll all be skinny cows and white shit.

A few weeks ago we had 14 skinny cows around here, I put out a salt block for them.

I don't know where they went, but have not seen any skinny cows lately.

We rarely get the white shit here, I wish we would for about 2 days a winter.

I could have dumped everything around the sides of the house but then the wind would probably bring it back. County compost site only wants $1 per bin to dump. One of the best deals around.

That’s actually a good idea! This year I’m mowing it shorter than ever and leaving nothing behind. I need to make a harsh environment for the voles. Every spring when the snow melts there’s squiggly lines all over. I’ve done traps and it helps…going to try this route this year and see what happens. Fingers crossed.

Do you have holes around those tunnels too? I used those pellets in the holes and got rid of them.

The squiggly lines are missing grass they collect over the winter. But they DO have holes. JohnTTwo makes a container with holes around the side only large enough for voles and not shrews as they feed on the voles but accidentally get caught in the traps. The good news is my problem has improved since I started setting traps but it’s not over yet…

Went to the dump on the east side of town and coming back I spotted this. Apparently a house burned down last week.

I raked yesterday. Over filled the back of my f150. Probably lost a quarter of it driving to the dump.

Our dump is free. Loaded up a broken washer for my mother in law in Battleford the other day and brought it here. They would have charged her $20 probably

A lot more snow on the rockies today than last week.

Bell Ringer was a big hit! In order to win the extra large rubber ducky a player had to hit the bullseye 3 time in a row. On kid finally did it near the end of the night. I think about 9 others had a shot at it. Figured somebody would do it eventually. Fun stuff!

Preparing for winter…. Not sure if I’m ready for it yet. But I am ready to hide in my basement and play arcade games and pinball

Also, that’s a chicken coop and small ‘quack shack’ in the run on the left for hiding from hawks. The chickens and ducks are NOT READY for winter.

I'm thankful my sister in law got the call to be at the cancer clinic Tuesday and not Wednesday. Definitely wouldn't have made it.

Here's a pic of the trail behind the clinic and the UofS. When she starts chemo in a couple weeks I plan on going for a hike down to the river

Went for a 4x4/hike yesterday based on a 1960s geological land survey my brother scoured off of the web. The goal was to find some agate (semi-precious gems) to throw in the rock tumbler and get some mountain air. Turns out the treasure map was good!
