So no pinball for you! Nice pic you posted of the blackout, though.

Yeah, I keep reaching for light switches because I'm too stupid to remember we have no power. Amazing how we take things for granted!

Not stupid, just habit. The last time a tropical storm came through here and knocked everything out I was laughing by the 3rd day every time I touched a light switch.
In the meantime, I had a cooler full of ice cold beer and a bonfire outside, so I made the best of it.

Power back on. At least I can sleep well tonight without stressing about the aquarium
Quoted from dirkdiggler:Tanker truck took a corner too fast on Hwy 14 west of Wainwright, AB.
I hear Mirco is being blamed for the finish on the guard rail not holding up.

Nice! Yeah, we've been here 21 years and the worst we had was three days after a hurricane.
I have a decent portable that we run when needed, I just can't bring myself to spend the loot on a whole house generator.

We built maybe 12 years ago and I had them wire a sub-panel so I could connect a portable gas generator for the obvious circuits (well, fridge, some lights, microwave, garage doors, etc.). That came in handy a couple of times. Since we're out in the boonies, we're not the first in line to get our power restored if there's a big problem. Then after a couple of years we finished the basement. Theater room, bar, my office, and what would unknowingly become the pin room. So some dollars invested in the basement.
I didn't travel a lot for work, but it started to pick up a bit since I started helping out a facility out of state. I figured the wife would in no way be able to haul the generator out, hook it up, start it up, and then flip the switch in the sub panel for the generator feed to house if I was gone. So after a call to the local Generac installer after doing some research, I settled on a 16KW Guardian (plus they were offering a 7 yr. warranty). Then the pins started showing up, and the value of the basement probably exceeded the top floor!
Water wise, our basement is well behaved. The sump only runs occasionally during a heavy rain, semi-moderately during a long term drenching, plus I have a 2nd sump w/a battery backup, but the Generac just adds another layer of protection.
Power is reliable in our neck of the woods, but one day it was out for maybe 8 hr. Dead tree limb took down some lines somewhere, but life went on as normal for us. I think the biggest potential problem are ice storms where we live. Plus maybe I have some prepper tendencies!?
But besides that long story...the wifey needs to be happy!!
Quoted from dirkdiggler:I always chuckle when I see this sign on the drive to my dad's.

Surprised you haven't pulled in to see if they'll sell it!
I was scanning thru some of my old emails and came across some old photos
from when I was working on the north slope of Alaska.
I was commuting working a 2 week on & 2 week off rotational work schedule
These pics are from early July 2007, when the sun was out 24/7.
They include a herd of Caribou migrating thru and a shot of the midnite sun.
Quoted from EJS:Alright who remembers this? Bring back memories anyone?

Took me a little bit, but I finally remembered.

Didn't ring a bell with me, but Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Quoted from dirkdiggler:The trunk was bouncing open and closed. Looked like it was talking as we approached it.
That reminds me, I need to call my Aunt Rusty.
Quoted from dirkdiggler:When the wife drives I get bored and end up taking lots of pics.
Nice pics. Tanks for posting them.
Quoted from punkin:Neighbour just came and asked me if i wanted another snake. This guy is guarding his garbage bins.
I reckon it's the same guy i picked up 8 or 12 months ago here. Probs 9' now. It's up against a sheet of drywall for scale.

Snakes in Indiana don't quite measure up to that, but they still make great mouse catchers - glad to have them around.
Old picture, maybe 5 years ago. I still see them around the yard occasionally and out by the woods.
I don't like it that your spring is coming now.
It means that California oranges are disappearing from the shops here and i have no salty orange.
Tried a red grapefruit today, it was shit.
We won't have good oranges for months.
Quoted from Atari_Daze:This fella hangs out by my Wednesday meeting place.
Such a good boy.[quoted image]

Can you at least tell us the direction of the perspective
Facing east, west, north or south?
You must play it a lot. Mine was a gift from my brother 35+ years ago and it still looks good. I only play a year here, a few years there though. It got shoved when the pins came a couple years ago and is above a glass snake tank now.

Only been using it for about a year now. Dad bought it at Costco 20 years ago.
Wife and I play 3 to 5 games a night. Think it could be a humidity thing as it's been really dry this winter
Maybe, was thinking about it earlier, you haven't got a hooked point or something have you?
A genuine pigs bristle board should last for decades.
That dart board is roached! I go with horse hair boards. If you talk to a tournament director at the close of an event you can usually get a lightly used board at a nice discount.

pasted_image (resized).pngPigs bristle after 35 years of semi regular home use. We'd play every day for a couple years and something else would distract us for a year or two and then back into it.
My fav was $2 a game, but they took the notes out of circulation here.
You'd each fold a $2 note up as small as you could and poke it under a wire near your fav shot. sometimes there was 8 or more notes up for grabs for the first dart to pierce it.
