A very vivid double rainbow as we were driving home today. The pictures really don't do it justice.

This is the same aurora borealis from last night as seen from Northern Alberta and the Northwest Territories.

The more remote you are the better the show. The dancing is much more apparent when there's no light pollution.

I worked on the north slope at Prudhoe Bay AK for about a year about 13 yrs ago,
but was only able to see the northern lights once.
In part because I worked a 2 week on/2 week off schedule, but also cause
during the winter the skies were almost always cloudy or foggy,
and of course during the summer it was daylight 23+ hrs a day.

    #2611 2 years ago

I worked on the North Slope for a little over a year back in the 70's when they were building the Trans Alaska Pipeline. Got to see them many times....sometimes filling the sky....I swear you could hear them. Once on a flight back to Fairbanks, off in the distance and clearly higher than us, I saw what looked like a very vivid green worm!

Very carefully. Best to make sure all the saints car air fresheners are dangling from the rear view mirror. Or hope the owner(s) save some money and replace the bald tires.

At least it won't cost as much as other cars to fill up at the pump.

Not missing much. Australia doesn't make a decent lager, although plenty of Aussies swear by their particular swill.

Found a quiet spot on my break at work, to sit and reflect on this last week, my dad ( bssbllr ) isn’t getting better & no matter how much we battle, it’s just science and we have to be okay with it. Man what a tough week, I’ll tell you the NY weather has also stayed consistent to the situation, rainy and cold. I wanted to say he loved this site, being without Facebook, he used this as his social media, he took joy in learning and teaching or sharing his stories. He communicated heavy on this page after his retirement & for the guys that always punched the thumbs up button, I loved hearing about it! So thank you! I enjoy reading through posts he’s posted, I’m thankful to have them. Guess I’m just taking the time to vent about our situation. Though I’ll never understand it, a great guy that didn’t deserve it, he’s fighting a damn good fight. A few months ago he posted about being in the hospital and here we are.. he’s fighting. Just wanted the positive vibes sent our way. Love ya big guy bssbllr I’m glad I was able to jump in here and learn about it! & I’ll continue to hold onto the dirty hairy pinball machine forever!

I have often thought about your dad's situation over the past few months and have always hoped for the best and will continue to keep him in my thoughts and continue to hope for the best for him and your family.

Made my big snake a hammock yesterday so he doesn't have to hang off the lights when he wants a look around. He still wakes me up banging round the tank, but not nearly as much as he did falling off the lights all the time.

I was bored at work yesterday so I took apart a motor. Check out the position encoder. I think there are 500 of those slots/openings around the edge. It’s made of metal and thin as paper. Quarter to the right for reference.
