    Quoted from ImNotNorm:

Instead of calling it corn on the cob & corn, shouldn't it be referred to as corn & corn off the cob?
Calling it corn on the cob never made sense to me.

    #2552 2 years ago
    Quoted from TractorDoc:

Warning -- Don't try this with the field corn you typically see growing along side the road.

Farmers tend to plant their sweet corn where people driving by don't know where it is.

They know they'll lose some of the crappy corn. Have at it. They need a good laugh.

I'd always pick a fresh ear of corn, put the whole thing in the microwave without shucking and give it 5 mins. Peel, slather with butter and salt and a squeeze of lemon.

Call it what you will, there's nothing like having this for a meal in the middle of January or February. Beats anything you can buy at the store.

Not really. My brother in law grows his for Green Giant. He's got hundreds of acres. There's no hiding that much.

    #2559 2 years ago

I just did the same with two dozen ears of corn. Jersey corn on the cob is one of my favorite things about summer and I freeze some every year. It's depressing thinking about winter!

Yesterday saw three turkeys walking on the sidewalk about 1/2 a mile from my house when i was
coming back from an errand to the store.
Today there are 4 turkeys (same?) in my yard and then onto the garage roof.

Put a $5 in a candy machine today cause I needed a quick fix. Snickers was $1.75 and they must have ran out of quarters. Here’s my change: felt like I was playing a slot and hit the jackpot.

I used to shoot a lot of pool at this dive bar in Tustin California.
There was a cigarette machine by the pool table.
If the bar was really packed we would put a dollar in the cigarette machine and just hit the eject button and it would spit out 4 quarters.

I did this in college on a dollar coin machine. Once in awhile something really old would come out for some reason. Someone must have cashed in grandpas stash that got brought to the bank to fill the hopper. Every night after class I’d stick a $20 in. One in 3 times there was something worth saving. I have a small stash still here. Probably not worth much over face.

I’ve never received anything worth saving out of change.
I did date a girl when I was younger who worked at a gas station and there was a period of a few weeks that someone was coming and buying gas with silver quarters.

    #2574 2 years ago

    Yes, mine was a wolfie.
I think I caught his GF in my office the same day, I felt bad because as I gently scooped her up to put her outside, all her babies came scampering off her back. None the less, I put her outside, hopefully she and he will meet up again some day.

Yeah, people keep ringing me everytime they catch a snake round here asking me if i want it.

I just say 'why would i pay $5 a week to feed something that catches it's own food?'. Saves explaining the difference tween captive reared and happily wild animals to idiots.

This is the sound of the Black Cockatoos i hear every morning and quite often during the day, along with Kookaburras.

The cockatoos are such a mournful sea sound that i thought they were sea birds when i first moved here and heard them. Was only when i saw some i realized they were cockatoos.

Brilliant sound to hear at dawn.

Ivanpah solar power plant, largest solar plant in the world. Pretty amazing, flew past it today on the way to San Bernardino.

You jerk, you're contributing to it's inefficiencies.

I quote, In November 2014, the Associated Press reported that the facility was producing only "about half of its expected annual output". The California Energy Commission issued a statement blaming this on "clouds, jet contrails and weather".

Really, contrails! Must be the same ones with the drugs in them to control us! And are clouds part of the weather?
Anyway, it was a good read, thanks for sharing!

A weird dark area appeared in the clouds outside our kitchen window yesterday. It lasted quite a few minutes. Not really sure what would cause something like that - we thought maybe it was a jet trail or a spinning vortex of air. Cool looking, whatever it was!
