Kareoke is a a blast. Before covid it was our Friday tradition at our bar here. I love singing anything heavy cause it's mostly country hicks around here. Not that I don't have a dozen or so country songs in the rotation.

We just don't have much skinny cows, but lot's of tall rabbits.

A corner of my dilapidated backyard, and my current view. Need to have the pool completely resurfaced and the grass/landscaping completely redone in the fall. That shit ain’t cheap, hence the dilapidation.

If your house was built after 2005, grass in the front yard is not permitted. Homes built prior to then are grandfathered in. My house was build in 1995, and had all grass landscaping in the front, side, and backyard. I’m considering a Desert Landscaping conversion, but last estimate I got for that was nearly $45k.

I was just curious because I grew up there. Is it expensive to fill a pool ?

That sounds a little on the high side depending on what you want to put in, how much dirt/bad sand/soil they need to haul away. Of course I am going by California prices and I suppose things may have gone up from 7 years ago when I redid mine (and your area may be larger). When I redid my landscape I chose California natives, cacti and succulents. Love the agaves. They started small and seven years later (already removed one big dead one from rot) they are growing strong. Takes about seven years and the landscape should take care of itself if you picked plants correctly and they get acclimated. I water maybe 6 times a year if that. Last water bill was $68 for two months. Don't ask about my power bill and solid waste - that is expensive as heck .

My guess, it's dinner. Probably an egg mass from another insect, a common meal. It could be temporarily storing the left overs.

What those horrible bastards do is to encase a living insect that has been stunned with their poison in with an egg. As the egg hatches and the pupae emerges it eats the living meal provided.

A startling discovery. It's a 7'+ (~2.25 meters) snake skin leading into a utility access into my home's crawlspace. I used to have some filler in that void, but I guess it got pushed into the crawl.

I think I know this guy, though. I saw a really long Eastern rat snake traversing my patio just a couple of days ago. I also saw him earlier while I was skimming the pool a couple of weeks ago. I wouldn't be surprised if this is not the one that startled me hanging in a ligustrum bush near a walkway a year or so ago.

This guy is large for the species (an indigenous constrictor). He's been around for a while. I don't imagine I have a mice problem in my crawlspace at the moment.

The wife is not amused.

They are ace. If you live somewhere pythons are active, you are indeed lucky.
