Yep, female with her ducklings. Male has a lot more white plummage and a white spot on the face. Should be some yellow on the tip of the bill but I think can't see due to the picture resolution.

Right on! I wasn't sure. The Canadian geese that were breeding have owned that little pond since about May. Haven't seen any other species in there until today.
At first it looked like a duck/loon hybrid. But once I got a little closer I realized it was a duck.
Sorry about the pics I had to zoom in with my phone. Momma wouldn't let me get close at all. Having my dog with me probably didn't help

Quoted from ImNotNorm:Don't usually see these type of birds. Anyone know the species? Looks like a duck.
If it also walks like a duck and quacks like a duck . . . then it's a duck.
But I see that LTG has already verified it is a duck.
But shouldn't a Golden Eye look more like this?

You are of course correct. Sorry, my mistake.
It is of course Genus Bucephala.

Quoted from Sputnik:This is Cherokee Lake. Also my first time flying a helicopter.
[quoted image]
First time? And you're able to take pictures? I don't think Superman would be able to pry my hands off the controls.
Pic taken just before the instructor turned the controls over to me. The helicopter was very enjoyable, great visability.
Quoted from Atari_Daze:Caught this fellow resting under my car wash bucket, for those in the know, the Copper Head, is NOT one to get friendly with.
[quoted image]
Think I'd need a shorts wash bucket after seeing that.
Quoted from golfingdad1:What do you do with a snake like that, on your property?
While my answer may not be agreed upon by all, but since I have many 4 legged friends on my property 24/7, the snake in the picture become a few inches shorter and then relocated permanently to the woods next door.
I will say I make every effort to positively ID creatures as friend or foe. The last one was colored "red on yellow"... it too was permanently relocated after my dog chased it and thankfully listened to me when I yelled at him to stop the pursuit.

Same here .....
Rattlesnakes get dispatched, Kings snakes , Coach Whips and those sorts can move along peacefully.

It boils down to "It's us or them :. Lots of four leggged friends here as well who would go after them as well I want to protect.
Quoted from boagman:Very pretty yard, that. You should be proud...serene.
Thanks...grew all the petunias from seed starting in early March.
Quoted from TimBoch:With how warm it has been, the yard seems to be doing ok.

Mine is too, but I've been watering the shit out of it.

Glad to see storms. We need rain badly up here and I’m sure you folks aren’t that far off.

I could use a little more water in mine… but just means a little more beach for now.

There’s a lawn thread somewhere on here.
Yeah his lawn looks especially great considering we’re attempting to set drought records here in MN.

Quoted from Dee-Bow:I moved my mother to Medicine Hat Alberta where she decided to retire. (She doesn't know one person there!) This is her view from the balcony. That tree is a beauty!
[quoted image][quoted image]
Looks like your mother is in the same apartment that my sister is living in.
Quoted from jaytrem:My poor lawn...
[quoted image]
That's 75k in wood. You could have your entire lawn/yard professionally redone 50 times with that money!!!
Quoted from ImNotNorm:That's 75k in wood. You could have your entire lawn/yard professionally redone 50 times with that money!!!
And that's only about 1/2 of what they dumped! Saves the tree companies boat loads of money when they can dump for free. I really should buy one of those mini lumber mills.
Had a couple of bee swarms today - one was mine and the other was new renters - of course one was in a pine tree on a steep slope
