I thought that was Mr. Rainier, but wasn't sure. Been 10+ years since I've seen it.
My grandad from the Seattle area, when he built his house, the main living room window was at a precise angle such that it was a square view of Mt. Rainier.
The land across the street from his home was sold a few years ago to a trust, but they will allow trees in our view of the mountain to be trimmed such we can keep our view.

Thanks for posting, brings back memories.

The reflection from that gasbag in the water is incredible. I remember seeing them do that one morning in Sweden 35 years ago, we got to help hold them down while they inflated. The gas roar, i can still hear it.

There was one guy had a small balloon and a parachute harness with a gas bottle strapped to his back. I still have the pics but they are polaroid.

    #930 59 days ago

And I still click here looking for another pic of the white tailed dear.

And not because of her butt pic, but because she is cute and reminds me of someone a very long time ago.

    #931 59 days ago

I wish I had my camera ready last week, but I was too surprised to get my phone out when it happened. You’ll have to settle for a tale of a white tailed dear that I saw on my way home from dinner last week. It was about 7:00 pm and I was driving down Strasburg Rd outside of Monroe Michigan. There had just been a stop sign, so I had only sped up to about 35 miles per hour as I came up to the Green Meadows golf course. The tee box for the ninth hole was right next to the road. Two good looking young ladies who appeared to be in their early or mid twenties in short skirts were preparing to tee off. The tall brunette was bending over to place her ball on the tee and her skirt rode up to reveal a nice, bare white tail. Meanwhile, her shorter, blonde playing partner stared at my smiling face as I slowed down to a crawl while passing. That image has sustained my good mood ever since.

Good eye. Yes, I moved 3 of my legal medicinal cannabis plants to the tent where they gobble up light 18 hours a day. I'm letting Mother Nature nurture the other one. All are thriving. Don't forget mighty pumpkin harvest.

I've been hearing a lot of planes overhead the last couple months. Apparently a skydiving outfit is operating out of the county airport and cooped up thrill seekers have been taking the leap. I spent a few minutes today watching as the plane would fly by, circle, and eventually release its cargo.

I don't know how long it takes to pack a parachute but there seems to be jumpers every half hour or so. Maybe they have a lot of parachutes.

Any of them have a streamer yet and have to pull the reserve?
I've seen it happen twice. Back in college a buddy and I played golf at a course way out in the country and there was a jump school was next door. Two separate we times watched divers dump their main and pull the reserve. Fortunately they both were successful but lead to some tense moments watching. I will say it was slightly distracting when they were overhead, I was always watching them drift down and not playing golf. Every so often the wind would shift and they would land on our fairway, always wondered if that was a 'seasonal' hazard.

I've seen it a few times. It happens more than you'd think. Bad packjob, deploy the chute in an improper body position, get a violent line twist you can't kick out of and losing altitude etc...

I've never had to do it myself but came close when I pulled on my line straps too hard after a deployment and the canopy folded onto itself. Dropped a hundred feet instantly. Lucky for me I had plenty of altitude and managed to get the chute to come back. All in a matter of seconds. That was my last jump that day, lol

Have not noticed that yet -- but I've not spent an excessive amount of time watching.

    Quoted from TheHueManatee:

    Dropped a hundred feet instantly.

I was amazed how fast the people dropped after jumping. The plane looked like it was moving in slow motion but the jumpers fell like rocks.

I keep telling the wife we should do it. She tells me go ahead. . . (she knows she has a decent life insurance policy on me ).

When I first entered the Military, I was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. Stock photos off the internet below, but they give the idea. Most of the jumps were at night with full combat load, which was about 30-40lbs more than I weighed. Seems like we were always sitting around while chuted up waiting on the plane to be repaired (and no going to the bathroom after the chutes went on, sometimes for hours). When we finally got airborne, sometimes the pilot would get lost or not lined up correctly on the drop zone and we would have to circle back around. Meanwhile the guy next to you is throwing up from partying the night before and that smell is permeating throughout the aircraft. I didn't like jumping so much but believe me, by the time the light came up and we shuffled out the door, I was ready. Of course, we would still miss the drop zone and be put in the trees, and you had to recover your chute and hoof it back to the rally point, usually 2-3 in the morning, and be up and ready for PT the next day at 6 am.
Yeah, I am not voluntarily going parachuting these days ...

Happened to one of my customers 40 years ago. Only the main snarled and wouldn't release so he couldn't deploy the reserve because it would just get tangled with the main.

R.I.P. Arnold. You are still thought of a missed.
