    Quoted from Tuna_Delight:

Anyone who has been involved with roadway/utility construction will know that this stereotypical perception is typically undeserved.

Exactly. How do you explain away an injury to someone you are responsible for as a supervisor when you haven't done a risk assessment on the variables?

Got some free logs dumped in the back this time. They even cut to size! My wife is very happy they're not on the front lawn. There was a tree in the way, so it wasn't possible before. Unfortunately it died.

An interesting gravestone I see when I walk up the hill into Maryland.
It looks like a ghostly figure is holding Mr. Stowell's star.

Machines made it overseas without a scratch! Got one all set up and realized that the box that has the keys in it is in a different shipment and won't be here for about 5 more weeks.

A few games of pinball with the wife, then hot tub to end the night. Couldn’t ask or need anything more.

I’ve been in that situation before. If you can find someone with a few games produced around the same time you can usually wiggle it enough most keys will work. I got into a Walking Dead with a Star Trek backbox key so I could secure the head.

Swat team has been on my driveway for over 4 hours. Cops knocked on my door 20 minutes ago to ask for access to backyard. 2 cops are in position in my backyard. Their supervisor checks out my pinball machines and says, "Those are the coolest pinball machines I've ever seen. We should talk when this ends". Not your typical morning here.

Safe ending. Must have been a dozen full swat with another dozen plus backup. Glad they leased house and don't own it.

    So true.

This is the neighbor attorney who advised his son not to surrender until another attorney arrived. Standoff ended when another attorney arrived. The attorney neighbor was cuffed for an hour or so but not taken away.

No, the crime is out of hand and some people don't tend to like it being met with appropriate action. Should they stand there alone and ask for the suspect to please come out?! You don't even know why they were there, so how are you judging the response?

No doubt. There are a lot of bad guys out there. They deserve everything they get.
There is also, IMHO, over the top, unnecessary uses of force by law enforcement. People's lives are taken unnecessarily. You may disagree. That only means that you're not aware of the incidents I am aware of.

I've been a police officer for 30 years. I'm pretty sure I'm aware of more law enforcement incidents than you are. Yes, I completely disagree with you and I believe you may be unaware of both perspectives. You're assuming this is an over the top use of force when you have no idea what the circumstances are. They need to be prepared for what might happen.
Don't believe everything the media feeds you.

I'm not assuming anything. I am in fact aware of over the top use of force in some cases and I'm glad that it wasn't used in this case, as stated.

To answer your question, "should they stand there alone and ask the suspect to come out?"
No, not alone, a show of force is good. Asking the suspect to come out is a good start, as these LEO must have done, instead of going with the 0600 no-knock warrant. Clearly this guy wasn't Al Capone, or they would have.

Since you have been in LEO for so long, wouldn't you agree that de-escalating a situation should always be the first priority?

I'm sorry your ox was gored.
Best wishes for you as you safely track down the bad guys.

My ox was gored because you are spreading the rhetoric that " the tactics used by these guys are way out of hand in America."
That would be like someone saying
"These board repair guys are hacking way too many board repairs" because there is a micro percentage of failed repairs, by a small percentage of repairmen, that people on a forum complain about and point out repeatedly and bash, when the vast majority of repairmen do a great job and assist countless customers.

I'm willing to accept that we aren't going to agree here and get back to picture posting. Apologies to everyone for getting off track.
