Seeing as so many people are triggered and feel the need to vocalize at the mere mention of pin prices/markets, I'd like to propose a Master Thread for such discussion. I'm sure this has been tried before, but I'd suggest this to possibly make it work better:

-Mods try making it a sticky, and if the thread is successful keeping it that way.
-THIS IS CRITICAL: If someone sees a new post discussing the topic, they can guide them by simply posting a link to this Master Thread. Or just continue to post sarcastic comments, per tradition.
-The conversation would be devoid of the "this is stupid" posts that are currently rampant, and would actually fill the need that many people feel exists.

People get to discuss what they want to discuss. No one will be triggered. Everyone who feels there's nothing to discuss can safely ignore the thread, while having an avenue to vent their frustrations by pointing any new "ill-informed" thread starters to the Master Thread via the link.

I'm open to productive suggestions. I'd just like to facilitate conversations without having to wade through the "this is stupid" comments.

It never works because somebody always has some brilliant new angle that clearly deserves it's own, unique, paradigm-rocking thread. Or they have it 5 times.

“Inflation is bad! How will this affect pinball pricing?”

“Crypto is bad! How will this affect pinball pricing?”

“Housing market is bad! How will this affect pinball pricing?”

    "Remember Beanie Babies? Pinball pricing!!"

"Interest rates are up. PINBALL FUCKING PRICING!"

As long as there’s noobs, or vets with nothing interesting to say, there will be weekly redundant pinball pricing threads. And we have more noobs and boring vets than ever.

In case you need a reminder...

One of the very few inevitabilities in life:

    •Death
    •Pinball Price/Bubble Threads
    •Taxes

    #8 1 year ago
    Quoted from arcyallen:

...would actually fill the need that many people feel exists.

I thought if you said your wish out-loud it won’t come true?
Pricing threads are just hardcore cheapskates (old timers) hoping for the ass to fall out, or greedy newbies (richies) trying to buy a dragon’s hoard with their new covid money

    #9 1 year ago
    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

It never works because somebody always has some brilliant new angle that clearly deserves it's own, unique, paradigm-rocking thread.

What part wouldn't work? If you, or anyone else, sees a pricing post and simply posts the link to the Master Thread, how will that not work? I understand it will not eliminate the initial posts, but it will severely limit the pointless back and forth within each thread. If you, The Most Prolific Pricing Thread Poster, have another solution - I'm all ears.

The only solution is to continue to make fun of people who post "bubble burst" threads despite over 20+ years of bubble burst threads predicting burst bubbles when in fact there's no bubble and never has been. It's been proven there's no other possible way of dealing with it.

We already have a "master pricing thread" and nobody wants to use it because people all think they are geniuses when they post a price bubble thread and the world must see their genius and their thoughts on how changing weather patterns may affect the pinball bubble simply needs a standalone thread.

I made a mistake. If "Mock those I disagree with" is your advice, remind me never to sincerely ask you for advice again.

    Anyone else?

Pin prices going up isn't really news. It can happen at variable rates, and certainly the largest jump was 2020-2021.

Unless the bottom falls out on the demand for games, or you're probably not going to see prices deflate.

It's not a terribly deep or complicated subject. So, whenever a new thread starts up, there is typically a flurry of responses, mostly complaining about rising prices and other pricing threads, and after a few days, it dies off and that's about it.

Well, maybe the next one will finally crack the code on pinball pricing, resulting in $4K Addams Families again.

By the way, in 2004, people were complaining about $4K Addams Families and how it's a hobby for rich people.

If this thread is exactly what you hope it becomes, what types of discussions do you feel will be the most productive?

Might help to list those in the first post so others know the vibe you’re going for.

Whatever genuine concerns/comments people have about pin pricing and the market. Recession? Bitcoin? Stimulus?Bull market? COVID? Whatever. A good discussion, and perhaps a debate, without actual bickering. And for the love of all that is good and holy...

    Without the incessant trolling.

Yeah, it's telling that the guy who wants a master thread didn't search to see that there is/was, in fact, a master thread. Which of course no one uses, for reasons stated above.

But the OP doesn't actually want a master thread. What he really wants is for the Levis of the world to stop ridiculing all the market-obsessed chicken littles. Can't speak for others, but I only click on pricing threads for the inevitable smackdown. This one delivers.

If I had "genuine concern" about pinball prices I'd probably need to seek some professional help.

Besides, everyone knows it's just like the car market.

I never understand why people like to point out they are being "genuine" on online forums.

It's like...everything else i've ever posted where I didn't point out I was being genuine was just complete bullshit?

I'm genuinely interested in why people do this!

I prefer the to be honest opening line and if that doesn't work the inevitable no disrespect rebuttal..lol

    #33 1 year ago

In my genuine opinion we need to make a single master thread for people without senses of humor.

    #34 1 year ago

LOL, it was already pointed out, but someone already tried this thread concept and it doesn't get much action.

    Quoted from RyanStl:

LOL, it was already pointed out, but someone already tried this thread concept and it doesn't get much action.

That attempt simply wasn't honest or genuine enough.

We need real honesty and genuineness if we are ever going to truly get down to the bottom of what makes pinball pricing tick. If we can finally unlock this century-old mystery, we can solve most of the world's problems.

O rly? How's that been working out for you? Been seeing a notable decrease since you took up that mantle? How convenient that the ONLY solution happens to be your favorite pastime. Absolute cosmic coincidence.

    #38 1 year ago

I honestly dont read any of the pricing threads.

    Prices go up and down.

    Everything else is guessing.

    What am I missing?

Glad we had this master thread. Looks like we got to the bottom of pinball pricing and solved it. Great work everyone.
