So I got some good news from the hand specialist today. I can use my index, middle finger and thumb of my left hand, so I'm OK to start flipping again!

I was able to get in several games this evening, and everything seems to be working well, needing just a few adjustments here and there with switches (no big deal). The one thing I did notice, however, is that every so often when shooting the mini-loop the screen would go dark for about 2-3 seconds, and then come back on like nothing happened. It doesn't happen all that often, and it's not a big deal in my mind, but I was just curious if this has happened to anyone else and if there might be a fix?

I have an interesting issue with the bowling toy. Every once in a while I get what feels like an erratic result, whether its knocking down pins that don't seem to make sense or vice versa. The orange molded launcher piece is secured tightly to the shaft.

In the stepper motor test for the bowling alley, the left EOS switch always triggers appropriately as the mech turns left, but maybe 25% of the time it does not stay closed when I set the mech all the way to the left. When this happens I can tap the left button again and the motor jiggles just a bit. After 1-2 times the switch does stay closed.

Could this be causing pin knockdown prediction issues? I'd rather not take apart the adjust the mech because it does see the middle and right positions perfectly *and* the left EOS switch always triggers, if only for a split second.

Anyone else run into this?

Getting balls stuck in a couple places recently. Mainly on the left side behind the orange bowling ball return piece. This is coming from air balls which didn’t occur at first but now it’s pretty regular.

The second place where balls are regularly getting stuck is just to the left of the mini playfield underneath. Seems like it pops up on a plastic somehow and doesn’t shake loose.

Anyone else getting balls stuck in these locations?

Quoted from RickyBobby1:

I believe that took care of it Rens! Thanks for the help and support - you rock!
Did a four player test after removing and re-installing the PDLED01 and 02 boards and the PROC board - no flickering nor the lights coming off and on randomly.
A youtube of what was happening before reseating the boards:

That happened to me. I didn't remove any wires, I just tugged out then pushed in firmly. The plug probably moved 2mm tops, but I haven't had any issues since. It's been about 2000 plays.

Do you mean left of the mini playfield, something under the ball? If that's the case, that's happened to me too. It's where the ramp meets the playfield, yes? I took that entire mini playfield off, removed the ramp, and installed the smallest washers I could find to help make it all level.

Looking for a little help. I have EA108 and the game worked when I got it a few months back. Went to turn it on today and I get a quick flash of light on the pf and then nothing. Small boards by the coin door do have led lit up and the power supply fan does seem to run. Eventually get a no signal on the display.

Anything I should check for?

First thing I would check is to see if the HDMI cables for the display are seated properly.

FYI - I filed this bug when I first discovered it (https://dutchpinball.myjetbrains.com/youtrack/issue/tbl-259) but haven't seen any engagement. This definitely feels like a software bug given the behavior: physically registering correctly but not being scored correctly. Fingers crossed it gets addressed as it happens every single game.

This is still happening every time I play and often multiple times when I go bowling. It's passed beyond irritating and I haven't seen any traction on the bug I filed. Rensh Is there anything else I can do? Thanks.

Just answered your email. Posted mail below for others to see as well as this is a fairly common issue. Solved nowadays with a power distribution kit with built in auto jumpering if pc doesn’t boot.

Thanks for your email. I hope you are well in these crazy times. I’m sorry to hear about this problem.

For starters I would like to mention a service FAQ I wrote which can be downloaded at
https://www.dutchpinball.com/the_big_lebowski_pinball_support

It contains a lot of solutions for known issues and other type of info.
At same spot you can also register your TBL, download an Operational manual and new software for your TBL.

Now your issue is likely caused by the fact that the PC is not booting because the PC has 'forgotten' how to start. The PSU (the PC-type
Coolermaster in the middle of the backbox, the silver PSU at the right only does 48VDC and its sole purpose is to drive the coils in the TBL and has nothing to do with powering ON the TBL) needs a signal from the PC to startup and this is, most likely, not coming. This appears like you have a broken PSU which is in fact not the case.

In the service FAQ the above is discussed in a section starting page 135
Try first just the jumpering, this will most likely already get your TBL up and running again.
If you turn it off-on again and it won’t start again than not only the jumping is required but also to set the Bios correct.

Let me know how this works for you.

And no worries, I'm sure we'll figure out together how to fix this

Kind regards,

Rens

New issue, hopefully minor, but can't seem to solve it.

I got coin mechs & a coin box. Coin mechs work perfectly, but...

the switch in TBL, with the wire that goes into the mech and gets pushed to credit, is giving me fits

both mechs, the quarter isn't heavy enough to move the switch, it sits on top of it. I can bend it out a bit straighter, soits not as much of a 90 degree, but bent far enough to let the quarter move it, then it doesnt push back far enough to activate the switch. Simple problem, I get that but what the heck, I realize I should have to be bending the wire at all.

Anyone experienced this/solve this or is there a adjustment, (sure can't see one) on the switch to loosen the resistance of movement

no other machine I have has anything like this, the quarter hits the wire and it activates the switch, this one, quarter sits on the wire - put another quarter in and the weight of both of them will activate it

thanks!

Fixed it. To likely no ones surprise, just needed to re bend the switch wire, how it came stock bent provides too much resistance. pulled out a stern one and re bent it exactly the same and problem gone.

Good call. Have see this happen a few times. Will need to remember to mention it in my faq.

Do you know a part number, location to purchase, etc on the rubber grommet? (Others have reached out to me as well on this one) Thanks!

Yep, I've had it happen several times in my short period of ownership; it is indeed a bummer.

Need some help, just got it set up and a few problems. One of my legs is rusty. The top roll overs are so firm the ball just sits there. The upper play field flipper got stuck on the first flip, slowly it went back in to position, only to do this every time, stays stuck up, unusable at this point. Everything else at this time seems to be working. help?

If it's a new game, I would ask for a replacement leg.

Sounds like the switch is stuck on or hitting something, you probably have to look underneath and see what's keeping it from moving.

Sounds like the spring came off of the flipper assembly, not pulling the flipper back to where it needs to be.

Sorry to read this.

Pls report to [email protected] incl tbl serialno and pictures of the issue. If it’s warranty we will ship you a new leg ofcourse.

I saw for the rest you already got solid advice, for the flipper I would like to add to check vertical tolerance. If it’s to close to playfield you get same symptoms.

Sorry, not sorry! So happy to have this. A dream machine for me. Just needs some tweaking. Flipper is already working, just needed to be exercised. The rollovers are seated very high in the 3 top lanes, nothing is binding they move smooth. I'm hoping with some plays they break in also. I will be in touch about the rusted leg, or should I contact Cointaker? Thanks Rensh. Beautiful machine!!! It has traveled a long way, all TBL needs is some TLC. I think I'll sling a hammock under it and sleep there tonight. yay

Any rug saturated with piss inherently becomes squeaky…I’m looking forward to getting mine any day/week/month now. Not sure if I’ll use the rug or not yet. I’ve heard it ties the room together but I often play in my socks or barefoot.

Mine as well. I just put some SuperLube along the length of the spindle and it seems to have helped.

This looks like a Stern Part # 545-5105-00 PBL for .29 each If correct part - can any one verify?

#2073 9 months ago

We source them from a local Dutch supplier.

Will order a few of those from PBL to see if they fit. Would be nice to have an US alternative. Shipping grommets over the ocean is a waste of time and money

FIXED, but just something to mention.

A friend of mine made it to the wizard mode. At the end of the multiball, everything stopped (as intended) and it went through the final scene, then the game resumed, but no ball kicked out. All coils died.

The 6.3 amp fuse (F1) blew for a second time in the year+ that I've had it.

Good thing the game comes with extra fuses. I popped it back in and the game was fine, but make sure you all have spares. I went to Marco and got a 5 pack for $3.

But why would the fuse blow? IF I ever got to the Wiz and the fuse blew, I'd go ballistic.

Anyone have had this issue? My left button skill set suddenly stopped working, should go through the top and come down tot he flipper, now it gets held in the pops every time?? Just started failing this way tonight, was working fine.

No switch issues from switch test no errors I have found yet.

Thanks!

See post #1594 in key posts. Maybe your issue is that broken spring?

#2079 9 months ago
Quoted from Spelunk71:

See post #1594 in key posts. Maybe your issue is that broken spring?

Thanks, took a look at the one, but that's not it. I have no issue with shooter lane diverter. My issue is over above the pops, the wire form/switch that stops the ball from completing the orbit back down to the flipper is not releasing during the skill shot (holding left flipper when launching ball)?

I read through the compete tech manual, but nothing in there covers it

#2080 9 months ago

I think these might be called the "ball gates" ?

there is a section in the tech manual from replacing with the "revised ball gates". not sure at all what drives needing revised ones, and not sure if its related in any way to my issue

but I believe I can now refer to it as the left ball gate is stopping the ball during the skill shot where its supposed to let it go through

#2081 9 months ago

If you press the left flipperbutton the left ballgate is suppose to open to let the ball through.

To check the working of the ball gates, this can be done in the testmenu in coil solenoids testmenu.

As mentioned earlier, check as first if the spring is still attached. Perhaps this came loose, electrical issues are rare.

Thanks! Are the springs on the ball gates as well as the shooter diverter? That may have been my confusion to the earlier post.

If spring is broken are they readily available, hopefully just loose

appreciated, will take a look under there tonight

The spring of the ball gate is totally different as the one of the shooterlane diverter.

Check via the testmenu functionality of the left ball gate

#2084 9 months ago

Yup

spring came off the wire door for the gate, will need to put a little (retainer) of some sort on the end to prevent that from re occurring

all good, thanks for the guidance!

One bug and one question

- found a bug last night that I’m shocked I haven’t found before. In Bowling Game Mode (not normal game mode where you go bowling), if you choose a profile while ball 1 in frame 1 is loaded, it will auto fire the ball down the bowling alley when you select your profile. The button is acting like your profile selection AND fire for your first shot.

- question about the bowling alley ball loading process. For the first time, last night my machine was multi firing the solenoid to load the ball up into the orange bowling ball shooter. It would always eventually get there but sometimes it would take 2-5 fires of the solenoid to get there. Does that make sense that it isn’t broken (ie not the case that the ball won’t load altogether) but is now struggling to load?

It's likely that your ball launch coil isn't aligned properly with the ball so it's striking it just off center and hence the ball doesn't always have enough power to reach the top. You can just loosen the screws holding the coil and center it again. It's in the manual on page 52. Good luck

#2087 9 months ago

Just had some weird behaviour. Launched 2nd ball with right flipper depressed and ball went to upper as expected. Car door moved slightly and mini loop light was not lit. Needless to say skill shot not awarded.

In another game during bowling failed first rug mode. 2nd time got to bowling in same game got a spare, and it came up with challenge failed even though it acknowledged the spare. Didn’t get the bowling ball….

I'm blowing the F1 and F4 fuses slightly over once per year. If anyone plays their game a ton, make sure you have those 10A and 1.6A fuses on hand.

You could increase F4 to 2A without a problem and see if it helps. Think factory even installed nowadays 2A standard.

F1 blowing is a new one to me.

Hello everyone !
I very recently got my TBL (#992) and everything works except that about 1 time out of 8, the ballthrough kicker fails to load the ball. The ball falls back in the through, stacks it on top of the next one and keeps searching for it until I manually open the door and kick the ball).

I'm a bit of a noob in pinball maintenance and I'm wondering if I should rather try to adjust the ballthrough kicker alignment or coil strength, or something else ? any suggestions ?

Check if the rubber grommet at the booth of the trough VUK is in place and not broken (not likely in such a new machine but I learned that in pinball nothing is impossible …) and than play a little with the coil strength to see if it solves the issue

#2092 8 months ago

The rubber grommet was still intact and tweaking the coil strength all the way to 25 seems to have worked and my ballthrough kicker is now mow consistent.

Thanks a lot !

Its not that scary under there, I was a bit intimidated at first but not anymore than the rest. The rug mech is easy to get to.

New to TBL and hoping for some help. Newer game (a few months old). The GI started to flicker with the flippers, and the inserts were not lighting. Now, the entire playfield has no lighting (GI or inserts) at all. Checked all the fuses under the playfield and they seem good. Checked the cables.
