I love using some different colors and
personal choices when redoing a game.
Love personalizing it to make it just a little unique.

You and tractordoc got me thinking that way after
seeing your restore threads.

Really liking the look of this one.
What an eye-catcher!

Definitely dude. Why not. Making everything new looking but a tad boring when doing this amount of work just doesn’t make sense to me.

Personal touches are cool. Will a purist buy a game I’ve done? Probably not. But other people appreciate the uniqueness.

This game is turning out pretty bad ass. Definitely one of the most colorful ones I’ve done. But it works.

This is like a Safari LE now haha.

Quoted from Colsond3:

Great looking game.
I have owned two and both had shit CAB paint jobs.
One was a repaint to a generic design
and the other was original but as with every Safari pin that I have seen
the paint from that era of Bally just disintegrates and flakes off if you just look at it.
But both BGs and PFs were in very good shape.

That is the freaking truth. Again considering this is what it was. The only artwork I could see was after I took the coin door molding off.

I thought it was one of those times someone had painted pure white over the cab for some ungodly reason. But it wasn’t. Stencils were just flat out gone.

Looking Good!

When the Lower Bumper is tweaked right, a nudge will send the ball to skim the bumper and be shot quick, randomly!
The Steep angle on the slings makes for some very fast play!

Definitely. Because the rest of this game looks so original.

If you buy it, you can put whatever color flipper buttons on it you want.

Really nice. I have a Gottlieb Aloha to restore and been thinking about doing a similar "reimagining" on it. Might design new era-appropriate cabinet art though since its so boring.

I might have gone with green for the PF apron, as opposed to Black.
Too dark when viewing from the player's perspective with the glass hood locked down.
Maybe it will look better once S/I cards are installed.
Otherwise fantastic.

#136 1 year ago
Quoted from pinwiztom:

I might have gone with green for the PF apron, as opposed to Black.

I did debate on that, but at the time I was planning on adding some black to the cabinet stencil. Just didn’t have time to restructure it.

But I also did that on purpose so when illuminated the playfield really jumps out. Which it does.

Working on the cards right now.

New legs and levelers.

(Some people consider new rubbers, LEDs and leg levelers as “restoring” a game)

I powdered the leg bolts too, so I commonly use a regular socket with a strand of paper towel to prevent any scratches.

Some places like Marco sell a socket with a plastic insert to do the same.

And nylon washers to prevent the bolts from scratching the legs.

And always add a cable clamp in the rear of the game for the Jones plugs and the power cord, so you don’t have to reach all the way down inside when setting it up.

Left some incans, went mostly with Comet Sunlight. I really hate that Bally (and Gottlieb) didn’t illuminate their glasses better. They need twice as many lamp sockets as they have. A lot of the artwork gets lost in a dark gameroom.

Either way, I really need a better glass.
