I picked up this last action hero from guy local that had a bunch of games in his barn. The game is in really bad shape. Lots of rust, cabinet is toast from water and moisture damage, lots of board damage and fixes. The guy was a vendor so I’m 100% sure it was routed. I know this isnt a highly sought after title but not counting my labor and the way pinflation is going I’ll probably end up right about at normal to higher end value but be in like new condition.

Here are some shots of the starting point.

Ha! Too late. I’ve already built a new cabinet from scratch. Pictures to follow.

Sounds like a fun project.

Where do you get decals for the cabinet.

Retrorefurb was the only place I could find them. They are quite a bit thicker than others such as phoenix. They also have a pvc/plastic smell. They went on well.

#7 2 years ago

Post some pictures along the way when you can.

#8 2 years ago

Playfield doesnt look too bad at the ticket area, most are blown out!
Should look great when your done. The retrorefurb decals are very easy (and forgiving) to install.
Did you hit the decals with a heat gun after installation? It sure helps them 'grab' the cabinet.

I did not. I use the dry method and it adheres very well. There are a small air bubbles that egress fairly quickly.

The pictures dont do justice to how bad it is. I was lucky enough to come across a NOS undrilled playfield so I am using it.

Finished installing the decals last night. Will be installing the trim, armor, coin door, gun and hardware next. I will paint pen the decal edges after its all together.

Great work, building a cab from scratch is no easy task.

Thanks. This is only the second one I've ever done. The first was a WWF Royal Rumble that I got from the same guy that was in the same condition.

Great work! The game is an underrated jewel, even better with the updated code.

#14 2 years ago

Good work there. Arnie would be happy.

And pin2dmd if its toast anyway!

Definitely will need a new translite. I kind of like the cartoon version but cant seem to find it. I will probably get the alternate version you show.

Pin2dmd would be an option except I have a colordmd leftover from a DEJP, so I'll be using that.

Thats awesome. How long did it take you to build the cab, it looks great. Any plans for powdercoating the hardware?

What a fun game and I miss mine. Nice to see it getting some love and you're moving along well!

I had the whole cabinet built in a weekend. Then another weekend to sand prime and paint.

Im usually not into powdercoat. I like the all black look. The last time I had it done it was $500 and I cant see getting my money back out of it. I am contemplating having the gun done up to look like a chrome desert eagle though

If this guy has more games like this buy them all so they don’t get any worse, otherwise your next project may be scooping up a pile of parts and trying to reverse engineer a machine!

Yah i was considering the gun too.. but as its plastic, options would be epoxy but no chrome.. maybe silver...

The all black is all good

He also had a Maverick, Slugfest, Strikes and Spares and a few other older titles. I'm not a fan of the older stuff so I couldn't tell you what they were. The sad thing is I lost his number. He contacted me through a craigslist ad a while back. I have been sitting on this LAH for over a year.

Check around, I had my legs, bolts, side rails, lock down bar, apron rail, wireforms, reel handle and a few other FT parts powdered for $100

Its been a while since posting. I was slowed with the holidays and such but the cabinet is near complete. I have started on the NOS playfield.

All new lamp and flasher sockets with new ground wire.

Did some more work on the cabinet. The transformer and line power cover were rusted so I cleaned them up and gave them a shot of metallic paint and polished up the transformer brackets and knocker plate. Just waiting on new service buttons and the bottom will be done.

Also did some work on the speaker panel. It had fell over and broke both internal tabs for the ears. So there was nothing left to screw the ears to. I created a 3d print that mounts over top of the panel slot. I also created a 1/2” speaker mount spacer to be able to use upgraded speakers. I swapped the Z connector for a molex. New display shield and foam gasket added for the colordmd LED.

I flipped the playfield over and started laying out the ball guides and posts. Polishing each one. Star posts arent the correct color just what i had laying around.

Looks great! I would love to have a new playfield.

The star posts are clear in the manual. Three for each sling and one for each outlane.

MR_TANTRUM makes stickers for the clear plastic. Over or under it.

I came across it from a random craigslist ad. Definitely hard to come by. I had actually purchased one that was better than the original before coming across it. The used one had much better colors and the clear inserts are still clear. Just really needed polished and the common hole wear repaired.
