A year ago both companies showed their new games at expo. Overwhelmingly BM66 was the better received presentation, although not playable, it was promised as the flagship game and would become great.

Fast forward one year, and Dialed In has now proved that it was the better designed and thought out game while BM66 owners are now frustrated over total lack of support and still in beta code even a full year later.

Last night JJP displayed the future of pinball to rave reviews and from what I could see all Stern offered up was excuses.

#87 6 years ago

When it comes to quality vs quantity, quality almost always wins.

#93 6 years ago

A little more food for thought.

If it should ever happen that this company does reap what it's sowing and go out of business, then you can almost bet any games that would be made during the last couple years of existence may never and probably will never be finished code wise.

#102 6 years ago
Quoted from fishbone:

Maybe a bit premature.

Sure. But what if it happened tomorrow? Where would that leave those with their year old $15,000 Batman 66 Super LES? And everybody else that bought a BM66.

#109 6 years ago
Quoted from fishbone:

They'd be hosed of course.

Which is exactly what will happen to anybody holding an unfinished game if and when it ever happens.

#112 6 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

Like Magic Girl?

Or even Cactus Canyon. At the end it wasn't a high priority for Williams to finish coding several of their games. It took years later for somebody else to rise to the challenge.

Quoted from sparechange1974:

Sterns just got to slow it down.

"And the train, it won't stop going, no way to slow down"

Ian Anderson, Jethro Tull

Quoted from spinal:

Stern is not going out of business

They said the same thing about General Motors and without the government bailout where would they be?

I'm sure congress is looking into whatever they can do just in case one of these pinball companies ever has a sudden meltdown.

Rule #1 of any business- Treat your customers right and with respect or you will lose them.

#137 6 years ago
Quoted from pezpunk:

take a look at how CGC has been interacting with Pinside lately. I think it's been a tremendous win for that company.

I see it a little differently. Sure they are on the forum, but their sales pitches are no different than what I saw Stern attempt at expo last night.

They have not responded here to people that had major issues with their MMr playfields and their solution was a complete joke.

At least Stern came up with a program to replace some of the defective playfields that shipped over the last few years. Albeit not everybody was taken care of.

#139 6 years ago
Quoted from pezpunk:

my point was simply that CGC interacting here didn't immediately turn into a shitshow -- it can be done.

Yeah, but if you look at the big picture they are no different than PPS when trouble arises unless they can prove they are right. If they are wrong, which they were, they disappear like a fart in the wind until it's time to make money again.

#152 6 years ago

Rumor has it Stern is ready to change their ways.

Before another title is released all existing games will have completed code and the next title will also be complete before shipping except for a few bug fixes.

#160 6 years ago
Quoted from DennisDodel:

Again, Stern is planning to exit the pinball biz as soon as the current pinball fad is over and focus on casino gaming. That is part of the reason they moved to the larger plant.
And, once again, I cannot reveal my source, but there is at least one other person on Pinside that is in the know.

Well that would explain the lack of urgency of coding games. Just like Williams, why waste money and time when there will be nobody to answer to later on.

#227 6 years ago
Quoted from robotron:

buying a new stern pin is a big gamble

It is really a gamble that nobody in their right mind or one that has already learned their lesson really needs to take.

For years people were content to buy games that were already finished and then could enjoy everything it had to offer without checking a website day after day just to learn the promised updates never happened.

If you are not a gambling man or don't want to be let down then don't buy anything new from a company that has a track record of not finishing what they started in a reasonable amount of time.

#266 6 years ago
Quoted from 3pinballs:

I thought Stern had the rights to Disney themes or at least pretty firm ties.

So I'm wondering if JJP will have an advantage on future themes/movies.

Of course they will. Disney is one of those companies that might charge alot, but whatever they put their name on, they want it to be as good as possible.

#292 6 years ago
Quoted from ZenTron:

Life to short to let $1000 be the difference.

No doubt.

"I've got $7500 burning a hole in my pocket for a toy for my living room, but $8500 really makes me nervous".

#294 6 years ago

My thinking would be better if I took time to check my spelling before I hit send.

Again, anybody that's got a spare $7500 that they don't need for real expenses, probably shouldn't be too worried about another grand.

#299 6 years ago
Quoted from CaptainNeo:

well everyone should have a cutoff price in their head.

My cutoff price for a bean and cheese burrito is about $2, but sometimes I splurge and get a fully loaded burrito for more than $5.

#309 6 years ago
Quoted from fosaisu:

Sure, sure, but would you add another $2 to get a side of chips and guac? A man had to know his limitations.

I don't always splurge, but when I do, I'll spend $6 for a large Dos Equis Amber on tap too. Stay thirsty, my friends.

Quoted from iceman44:

Damn Odin, you need to get down here to Texas

Real Mex food and I can get u 5 fully loaded burritos for $5

Plus you can get with real people.

Or maybe u prefer vegans like Rarehero

Well, I'm not really interested in going to Taco Bell for 5 meximelts, but it still sounds better than that to-fu-fu crap.

#326 6 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

Trust me Odiner, it ain't Taco Bell

I know they have a saying everything is bigger in Texas, but where I'm at The Hollenbeck from El Tepiac what's known as a fully loaded burrito, and there aint nowhere in this country, you'll get something like this for $1.

o (resized).jpgo (resized).jpg

#327 6 years ago

Interesting as the Hollenbeck comes in two models priced at $9.50 and $12.50 accordingly. If you can't or don't want to afford that, there's always taco bell....

#330 6 years ago
Quoted from Black_Knight:

Lots of replacement pf cabs and node boards when they dont really have to do it.

They wouldn't have to either if those parts were good to begin with .

#337 6 years ago
Quoted from beelzeboob:

I think she'll cost you more than a dollar.

I thought she was a little easier on the eye than the some of the pics of dudes eating that burrito. It's about a half hour from here so I settled for local Mexican drive thru tonight.

#340 6 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

No way that beast is a buck!

Like I mentioned it comes in two sizes and pricing tiers. LE and Collectors edition. No standard on this model.

#342 6 years ago

Yummy.

#387 6 years ago
Quoted from Roostking:

Would you spend 5 bucks on a bean and cheese burrito, even if your cutoff it 2?

I will spend over $4 for a bean cheese rice and salsa burrito from Las Golondrinas because it's epic and worth every penny.

#497 6 years ago

Does anybody here like a good breakfast burrito? Chorizo and egg? I like mine with cheese and papas as well.

#693 6 years ago
Quoted from flynnibus:

There are a number of the collectors in our area that are straight up converts from Vids.

There seems to be a large percentage of collectors and pinsiders in general that are straight up converts from vids, and there in lies the problem. No concept of why pinball is not supposed to be like a video game.

#698 6 years ago

Real punk rockers have safety pins stuck thru their lips.

#737 6 years ago
Quoted from CaptainNeo:

Realizing you can have a blast in all eras of pinball. EM's and early SS games are fantastic to play with people. They have that, "just one more" element to them. And fantastic for dollar games because you don't wait around forever for your turn, and usually scores are neck and neck.

DMDs are great if you are playing with yourself, something I don't do that often. But for pure competition, I don't want the video game experience. It takes too long. And even if I am playing by myself, sometimes I don't want the headache. Just want to get game after game played and only care about final score and replays and not trying to reach nirvana or whatever the final level may be.

Quoted from Gryszzz:

T for Texas, T for Tennessee.

You get a T for Thelma too.

Can you guys just start a new "dishwasher only" thread?

And to think I got ejected from this thread for discussing burritos.

And I have the best dishwasher of all. My own two hands.

#996 6 years ago
Quoted from Pinballlew:

Are there really lots of LE's sitting in distributors warehouses?

There are a lot of unsold Kiss LEs sitting in the band's warehouse, I've heard.

Along with a lot of other high priced, useless junk.

Iron Maiden got delayed alright.

They are still trying to figure out how to work "Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter" into the mix without Trudeau.

#1695 6 years ago

If you think that's funny, then you have to wonder which two songs will be on Iron Maiden when it does get released.
