Quoted from mnpinball:

I'm proud to say this is my father and our family business of 40 years he built with his hard work and integrity from the ground up. Watch and tell me your opinions on our business and how we run it.
» YouTube video

Great video about the family business you told me about when we first met. I hope you're still enjoying the Williams Honey from that parking lot deal we made at Expo six or so years ago....

IMHO, Stern, Gary in particular, knows more about pinball than anyone else currently in the industry.

There are quite a few distributors of Stern product that the ones we hobbyist/collectors deal with. Shaffer or Betson alone probably buy more of one machine model than all of the hobbyist/collector distributors combined.

Full-Time route operators pay less for pros that what Stern advertises.

Quoted from dmarston:

They DID have something to say about it at their seminar. As of Friday night (13 October 2017), the status was that the writer and editors were waiting on various Stern staffers to send in their feedback about a draft of the text that had been sent to them. Of course, that will fuel the speculation about how much Stern is controlling the content, and such speculation belongs in the thread about the book.
.................David Marston

Thank you David for answering. If you go to the audio of the seminar, the question was asked and answered at the 49:00 mark.

Quoted from Lamprey:

I owned a Bosch for a short while as well. They use a "no heat" drying system that doesn't use a heating element that saves a lot on energy costs. I forget what they call their drying "system", but that's why they don't dry very well.
Sorry for the derail, please continue bashing whatever..

Quoted from Lermods:

Bosch dishwashers are different, they don’t have internal heaters to dry dishes, which is one reason they are so dependable and more energy efficient. Plus, They are made in Canada and are super quiet. You can’t open the dishwasher when the load is done or they will be wet. We run ours overnight, they are dry in the morning. Have ours about 8 years after dealing with crap from whirlpool. Love the Bosch.

Still have the basic Whirlpool builder's model (that probably cost them $150.00) when my house was built 23 years ago. After a year of loud noise when in use, I pulled it out and wrapped the exterior with cork from Home Despot. While not as quiet as a Bosch or Fisher-Paykel, It still runs great. Had to clean out the vent system in the door about three years ago as it was starting to leak water due to slow draining.

I've wanted a Bosch for many years but figured why spend the money.

Well after Stern wasn't put out of business after the now epic "Unveiling of 2017" this thread is no longer holy

What about those a**holes from Dutch Pinball calling Stern dead three years ago?

#824 6 years ago

Wiring harnesses in mine.
A fancy Bosch model is $800 or so. Cheaper Bosch ones are $450-600.
Your cheapo Whirlpool’s and similar plastic tub noisemakers are $200.00-$300.0
They all wash dishes just fine. Kinda like a cargument.

Quoted from NPO:

You weren't around for the SkitB debacle. A lot of people here were talking some very serious shit, to the point of threatening physical violence and the mods had to come in multiple time and cool people down.
Fast forward months down the road, Kevin (lead guy of SkitB) was seen at an arcade auction buying games. This was THE moment to stand up to him after basically embezzling our community, claiming bankruptcy, and then being seen buying games.
What happened? Someone took his picture - with his back to the photographer - walking away.
We sure showed him.

Kevin & family seem to be doing just fine. Nice pic of them on his FB page at the pumpkin patch/hayride...

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

L. O. L.
Never change pinside.

Never count the wise old guy with experience out. I remember the screenshot of Gary looking at TBL (on the video he then walked away with a drink in his hand) Someone commented with an ethnic slur that he was afraid that his money was going to someone else. We all know how that worked out.

Free Khalua drinks and a 22nd floor "private" party for those who gave money for basically nothing for years has not made up for what happened.

I still remember Gary walking out, waving his hand, from the JJP event at TPF in Grapevine after Jack insulted him.

Gary, while about fifteen years older than Jack knows the manufacturing business.

He will retire comfortably. The JJP company may not allow the early retirement that it was designed to provide.

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

This thread continues to age really well!

Yes it does. Love post #1 In this thread; "JJP will deliver PotC in Q1, 2018". Should have said Q1-ish.
Love the bashing of Stern, they are laughing all the way to the bank.

#1826 5 years ago
Quoted from jfh:

If you are going to quote to try and prove a point, try quoting the actual words. What I wrote was "JJP says it will deliver in 1Q18 with feature complete code, similar to what they did with Dialed In." That's certainly not an absolute.
Things have obviously changed since Expo, but that doesn't mean the original post wasn't an accurate reflection of the status - or perception of such - at the time.

They did not deliver PotC in 1Q18. Nor in 2Q18. That is an absolute.

#1829 5 years ago
Quoted from jfh:

Actions speak louder than words. I'm going to be buying on what I get today, not promises of what I'll get tomorrow.

Quoted from jfh:

And that still doesn't change the facts mentioned in the original post.
If your point is JJP didn't do what they said they were going to do, whoop-de-doo. Welcome to the pinball industry.
Things have been turned around since the start of this thread. That doesn't mean that Stern has figured everything out or that JJP is about to implode. Why some insist on making everything a battle between Stern and JJP is beyond me. We should all want both to do well.

We can disagree. It's ok.

The real companies reveal new equipment at the Amusement Expo International trade show (former AMOA and ASI shows) in late March.

#1861 2 years ago

What a difference a year and a half makes. At the 2021 Amusement Expo International (call it the AMOA show), only Stern was present with pinball machines on display. No JJP, No American Pinball (Although Dave Fix was present "walking the show floor"), no Deep-Root etc.

Quoted from tacshose:

Is Stern the only one that presents at CES?

You mean has a booth/presents their wares at CES?

#1865 2 years ago

The point is that JJP did not display at the largest industry trade show for route operators while Stern did.

Quoted from cooked71:

I think we should resurrect Sterns’ Dark Night in honour of Spooky’s new release(s).

When I start seeing Boo-tique pinball machines at the arcades in large Nevada casinos and Tim Arnold's Pinball Hall Fame, I'll consider them a serious manufacturer of commercial games.

And no, Spooky was not at the Amusement Expo.

#1911 2 years ago
Quoted from Palmer:

Is this really the bar for you? Whether games are located in casinos or pinball hall of fame? What a small world you live in.

Again, arcades in casinos. They are usually quite large. For example, The Peppermill in Reno had seven pins a few weeks ago when I stopped in to play.

But for you, I'll add the public arcades in Michigan, California and the VFW Pinball compound. Does that make it any better for you?

#1969 2 years ago
Quoted from smokinhos:

Peppermill had a decent line-up.. but they aren't well taken care of. Atlantis had TWD and it was in shambles. Not sure what u two are posturing about, but I used to live in sparks. Press Start has a much better assortment of games than every casino combined in Reno.

I don't understand the posturing comment. I am saying that Spooky games need to be placed on location by operators to be taken seriously. If the company does not attend the industry trade shows, they are not making equipment for route operators to place on location.

Also, Press Start has not reopened. Atlantis has a TWD (still dirty, but plays well) and a Star Wars. Pics are from today...
