A coin operated device of a difference type "in the wild" now very rarely seen in the United States and even the world.
Collectible to some people, but this one is a little young in age in comparison to what most look for overall as this is a push button variety, not rotary dial.
Some interesting facts:
1 ) It actually does WORK ($0.25 for a local call)
2 ) People constantly ask how to make it work, because they have not seen one, and do not know how to use it, especially if younger than 30 years old (too bad it is not rotary, as that would really throw people for a loop)
3 ) People want to use it for FREE because they think it is an "emergency telephone" for police, fire, or ambulance services
4 ) It was installed in the 1990s in Vancouver, WA
5 ) It is PRIVATELY operated for income, as the phone company is now non-existent.
6 ) People have directly asked to buy it for their home
7 ) It has not had a phone directory book installed inside the black cover since the 2000s
8 ) No one can remember the last time the light was replaced on the top of the booth
If you are passing by the Vancouver, WA region, see if you can find it!
