    Looks like a fusible link to me. It's just a flat piece of metal?

    Google fusible link washing machine and you should get some info.

    Also since it does appear to be a fusible link like I said, there's a reason it smoked, and until that's resolved, replacing the fusible link isn't going to fix anything it's just going to blow again.
