The 8MHz crystal oscillator is missing on my DMD board. It came from a Sega Independence Day. It looks like this board and part haven't changed over the past 20 years. According to Stern it is a Crystek 8.00 CCO-010 9805. I searched Google but there doesn't seem to be any immediate store that has these. Anyone know where I can get one?

I buy electronics from digikey.com and mouser.com. You're about the same shipping distance from both.

I'm guessing that just about any 8MHz crystal will fit your needs. I can't imagine any timing needing to be super accurate. Now, if you were able to locate more specs on the crystal, you could get an exact or near exact match.

Seems like everything on those sites sells in mass quantities. I only need 1. Anyone have a bad board with this on it? Looks like:

Select the cut tape packaging filter. You can almost always find single quantities unless it's a non-stock item.

If you can get the actual part number (crystal manufacturer, not stern), it should be a breeze to find an exact replacement.

Edit: I just realized it's a Data East part, too. I will post a link.

Doesn't look like Kyocera still makes it. You'll have to jump through a few hoops.

I would agree. I can't say with 100% certainty, but this should work:

Contact Crystek and ask what the replacement crystal is, I'm guessing it's the CCO-014

I don't see why it wouldn't. Is the pinout the same?

Pinout, package size, voltage, current, frequency stability, etc.

I don't want to scare you, though. It's not like you're flying it to the moon.

ebay.com link: 2 x 8 000 MHz 8 MHz Crystal HC 49S Low Profile

99 cents shipped for two. Tayda is a legit retailer. May take two weeks to come.
