Just acquired a very clean Lucky Hand - the AAB version of Jacks Open. Do have a schematic but STILL fairly limited in my abilities to use as a diagnostic tool. Machine is set for coin play - a single 25cent mech.

Insert coin, score motor starts and never stops, score reels reset, sequence unit never stops resetting, drop targets do not reset, AX, R Hold and S Start relays lock on. Score reel switches appear to cycle correctly when viewed while manually stroking.

I do not have a specific start sequence for this machine. I have been looking at the the 76 &77 single player Gottlieb start up sequences on Mr. Pinball.

I usually get rust buckets so start by total cleaning of every thing in the back box - this one still has mirror bright brackets! and I would like to get it to shoot-able this week before the giver's holiday home visit ends.

Suggestions.

Cheers

Make sure the coin switches are not stuck in the closed position after inserting a coin... You can also check the primary switches that send power to the score motor. Look for the score motor icon on the schematic and follow the line to the right and you'll see approximately five or six switches that send power to the score motor. Check these switches to see if they are adjusted properly. If these look good, then you can start tracing the problem via the relay coils that operate those switches - ie the switches that send power to the relay coils that operate the primary power switches for the score motor...

The coin switch appears fine. Will look at supply switches next - I did notice the odd connection of a wire on to the coil bracket hex cap screw on the ball count unit . Seems odd. yellow/?blue? wire.

I dont remember if this game has the reset bank on motorboard...does it? If so, check the actuator switch(s) under the relay bank(SB reset and a couple of others I can't remember, sorry)...usually 2-4. Should be open(when bank reset) until relay trips. Tough to see and adjust. I always check continuity for both open/closed with POWER OFF. Also, make sure bank is properly locked into place. If not, that can cause problems w/the relays not operating properly.

p.s. make sure zero positions on score reel(s) clean and properly adjusted. Even if it looks closed by eye it may not be making proper contact.

I have a similar ball count unit on a Fun Land, and that wire is the 6 volts feeding the ball count for lighting the ball in play lamps.

Thanks! Turned out that the B relay had a couple of switch issues that solved many things - things are getting better.

Issues now with the sequence stepper, the ball count unit and an unnamed stepper that is located under the playfield - maybe the ??WOW unit??

Seems like a previous owner did a superb shop job in the back box and most major mechanicals - all the chrome gleams, wire harness is clean, labels replaced, coil wrappers bright.

Just missed the warnings about over use of lube. The three problem steppers have springs gobbed with Super Lube, plungers and sleeves packed like a grease fitting! So I've fired up the ultra-sonic and the de-gunking begins. Such a shame as the rest is so top job.

When I went to remove the unknown playfield stepper I noticed that the fine wire connected to some shoes was broken at two locations.

Is it a double connection (yellow) or a link (red) or other???

On that stepper, it's a double connection where you have the yellows, but the single strand is
soldered to the spring loaded wiper itself, so there should be one wire on the base (as it looks
there is), and one on that base's spring loaded wiper..
The stepper itself is what shows and regisiters what to shoot for on the playfield. Once the pair of Jacks are
made, that stepper steps up to light "Shoot for Queens". Once those wires are soldered back into place,
I'm sure you'll see what it functions.. (T)
