I purchased a NOS Fireball backglass on Ebay a few years ago, luckily I managed to get it shipped to Australia safely & still in mint condition.
As seen in the pics it was still in the original wood packing crate, complete with newspaper pages from 1971!

That is beautiful.
Quoted from DanMarino:What’s the deal with these built in props for the playfield glass and frame? Is it actually safe and advisable for me to use them? Kinda neat feature. Is there also a prop for raising the playfield?
[quoted image]
They call them chop decks for a reason as they’ll take your fingers off. I don’t think I ever employed them once. Taking off the whole framed glass always seemed the better option

haha. It's a neat idea. I agree that removing the whole thing is a safer way to go. haha.
What is the consensus for raising the playfield? I didn't see a prop rod for the playfield and I'm not quite sure there is a wood rail to allow tilting the playfield all the way up vertically to rest against the head?
Never mind about the prop rod. I found the wooden one that is built into the machine. I like that the playfield tilts up on hinge points.
I'll probably use a second broom handle when I have the playfield up to keep it more steady.
Hey Gang,
Can someome please do me a favor and measure the exact height the upper playfield is raised to on the high side?
I appreciate it and it would save me from dragging mine out of storage, which I will exentually have to do, but not for a while yet.
Thank you!!

I can measure it tonight if nobody else chimes in.

Someone out there must know of a ‘72 Fireball that is being parted out. Please keep an eye out to help me save an empty headed treasure.
Fantastic!
Quoted from DanMarino:1 inch in the very back.
7/8 inch on the front.

Thank you so... much. I ended up with the NOS playfield, which is totally flat in this state and out being touched up, inserts flattened and cleared, it should be pretty sweet when it's done.
Thanks again!!
Walt
I officially left the club today after 6K plays and 9 great years. I will always have a sweet spot in my heart for this pin. She was too good for me!

Glad I could help. Mine is torn apart for painting and clear coating, so it was super easy.

DK, when do you think you will miss it? What are your thoughts about the machine? What is new pinball machine is going to take the spot in your lineup?

Great question!
Fireball came into the collection when I had a lot of friends who came over and played pinball.
I don't have that as much anymore, due to work/family/COVID/etc etc etc
I'm in the process of trimming down the collection, so maybe, sadly, nothing will replace it
I am still in the process of clear coating my Fireball. I can't wait to get it operational. That's an interesting observation about how Fireball is more fun when you are able to do it multi-player.

Yeah Lock-stealing from player-to-player & even game-to game!
The lock sequencing kind of makes it an unfavorable game for tournament play because say a ball is rolling down the apron towards the drain if you flip & hit either Odin or Wotan before that ball hits the outhole it's the end of your ball then onto the next player. Thinking you just locked a ball when a ball arrives in the shooter lane. you plunge the next players ball thinking it was yourn :'(
Question for everyone out there. Just picked up a Fireball but currently it has only one functioning coin mech, the rightmost coin slot. Upon inserting a quarter, the game awards three credits. I'd like to be able to set this at one coin/one credit as I'm considering putting it on location as a change of pace for my route, but have no idea how to change the coin settings to this as I'm clueless on EMs. Any advice?
Thanks-
Mike

I'm not exactly sure how the "3-rd" coin adjustment chute" works but I have a pic from a game that passed through here ...
IMG_1889 (resized).JPGThanks -
Looks like I can adjust the third chute to give two credits for one quarter but not one. Hmm. Not sure if 12.5 cents a game makes sense. Have to think about this one.

I think perhaps if you take the single Jones-plug and plug it into a drilled hole next to the female receiver, (basically not plugging it into anything) you may get a single coin for a single credit
Yeah, I tried that, and it took the circuit out of the equation, yielding zero credits when a coin dropped.

Hello All,
Noobie here. This is the first pin I fell hard for back in 1975.Local Bowling alley had one and i was hooked. Now I own one and it's functional but a little rough around the edges.
How many bells is this unit supposed to have? 10s and 1000s ring a bell, but the 100s do not. Also, the match function doesn't give the satisfying WHACK of a solenoid to the wood.
Any starting clues for me? Most internal labeling is long gone.

2 Bells , 1 on side wall of head & another on the "00-90 stepper unit" or match unit
behind the bell on the head there is a Jones plug to adjust when the bell rings. https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/1972-bally-fireball-1#post-5302100
Is this really a plastics set for the 1972 Fireball EM? http://www.planetarypinball.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=GS-FBC1&Category_Code=GS-852
I didn't think any were available?
I am still looking for a parts machine as I need a replacement head insert panel (populated). Would a reward help? I am recalling the days of LTG looking for an EM Charlie's Angels...
Fantastic!

They have the rights probably remade them. I have a much older repro from lets just say "other sources".

That is the EM set. CPR are doing the Fireball classics which have additional text on the plastics. From the picture, this set looks like the same EM Fireball set I bought years ago - I seem to remember the X on the clear plastics coating just like the pics too. Probably from the source from years ago.
Here is how the repro set looks in my game. Only differences I found are the plastics are a slightly lighter colour & thinner plastic than original, neither matters, they look great.

Been running into the same issue. I can get it to reward 3, 4, 5 and even 6 credits by following the game adjustment, but minimum is always 2. Can't seem to find the configuration that will only allow one play for one coin. The manual says it is possible, but doesn't really get into detail on how you get there. When these games were released, I suspect it was baked in that only certified techs would most likely be the only people ever getting under the hood, and some of the older manuals are written in that manner.
On the 1 credit per coin topic....
This cut wire at the coin door, it's Yellow-Black
IMG_6669 (resized).jpg
Inside the cabinet, on the door plug connector is the Yellow-Black wire, so not connected. To the right of the door connector the Yellow-Brown wire is just hanging there. Based on it's position, it looks like a male Jones plug connector belongs there.

FWIW, I had a playfield protector on the game. I took it off yesterday, and it just feels like the ball is moving better. I also have one on my Fireball II, and the ball movement on that game doesn't seem to be impacted, or at least, it's not very noticeable. Probably because it's a much faster game than it's predecessor.
My Fireball is playing very well right now. It's amazing how much cleaning improves the functionality of these older EM games. The playfield has some sore spots on it, specifically the Odin lane. I'm leaning towards a waterslide decal (thanks Vid) but can't seem to find a good shot of that area of the playfield from the proper perspective.
Does anybody have, or know of somebody who has, a scan of the Fireball playfield? I'm willing to pay for good scans.
This game is psychotic
Decided to clean the ball count unit today. It wasn't the first time I had cleaned it, but it needed a follow-up. So, do all that. It goes well. No dropped screws. Nothing falling out of my hand and hitting something sensitive in the cabinet.
Fire it up.... play a game, all is well. Until the game ends. Kicks a ball out to play.
Scratches head with a WTF look on the face.
Played another game, now it can't remember how many balls it has. Hate when that happens....
Coined up another game (credit reel read zero).... and it instantly kicks up a two player game and resets the score, and does not add credits to the reel.
Now, the real gnarly WTF looks are taking root.
Pull up the playfield, glare intently at the ball count unit. Nothing changes. Pressed the credit button and notice that the lights in the game are dimming a bit. That never happened.
Walk around a bit thinking really hard, pull the playfield up again and glare menacingly into the innards.
Nothing changes.
Finally, taking another look at the credit button on the door (my suspicions that this is a door problem are now in full bloom) and notice the little piece of fish paper that lies between the outer contact and the metal stop is just slightly off. Stressed it back to where it belongs and all is well
I must have ever so slightly brushed it while I was testing it after cleaning the stepper. Coin doors can really suck sometimes LOL
What's a fair price for one of these? I picked up one in decent condition that works but would use a shop job. Might let it go due to room.

Can you post some pictures? Probably will come down to how bad somebody really wants one, and what they're willing to do to improve it once the sale is concluded.
I'd say $1000, maybe as high as $2000 depending upon the amount of work it needs. Of course, if somebody just wants to have it, and it plays, that may factor in as well.
That's just a wild ass guess, based on what I paid for mine, which played but needed some TLC.

There was some woodgrain shelf paper on the game but it peels off easily. I just didn't spend much time peeling the rest off yet. Plays fine but rubbers need replaced.
